Where can I find a cheap turbine say under $300. The reson for being so cheap is it will be my first turbine and if I don't like it then the money investment wont kill me. I will take used or from a kit ( can't weld) if that is needed for a kit then I guess no kit. really any amount of thrust is alowed becase it will probably just be used to anoy the neighbors on sunday mornings.

Any comments exepted plz reply.

I seriously doubt you'll find an RC-model sized turbine for anywhere near $300, kit or complete. Perhaps some old JPX's or GW turbines out there for $800 used or so; I did see one JPX260 sell for $600 on Ebay a while back. Everything associated with turbines is going to be fairly expensive - airframes, support equipment, etc. remeber that if you plan to fly under AMA rules and insurance coverage that you'll need to fly a certified motor and get signed off by a manufacturer's rep.
There are a LOT of websites out there that deal with making homemade turbines from old car and truck turbochargers - if you just want to experiment around. But you'll still end up spending more than $300. Do a Google search on "home built turbine" or " home built jet engine".
Good luck (and don't hurt yourself!).

I bought my Sophia for under 600 dollars, it runs great. I agree with the rest that you will probably not find any turbine that runs for 300 dollars. I have seen some on ebay (usually military surplus APUs) go for as little as 300 but none of them were in running condition. It seems that this aspect of the hobby requires money, and if you are not willing to make the gamble then you had better stick to the CG Eagle II

I think you might have looked at a very old Pulse or Ram jet engine ,they're very simple designed and have only few moving parts ,it should be about 19 to 27 inches long depending on makes and models and about 2 - 3in diameter . I'm sure you will definitely wake your neighbors up within 5 blocks area once you'd started it . Look around in Ebay and you should find one easy but becareful not to burned youself .
Good luck !

it was 8 or 9 in long but I want the loudest verson of a jet engien because I live in Johnson county ks with all the rich people but I am from jackson county MO and I thought I would give the "aircraft center of the world" (wichita) a taste of its own "medisin"on sunday morning say 5 or 6 am. my dad is an aronatical engieneer but he just designs the software. Oh yeah my neighbor to the right is a sherrif that is young say 25 and he helps me pull off all my "stunts" without getting caught. such as setting all of my homework on fire shh dn't tell. Also my neighbor across the street races go carts and loves loud and fast stuff so he will want to be in on it. I am a kid on a budget so it can't be expencive but my Mom " chimist" will handle the safty so all you guys dn't have to worry.

Then you should have at least 3 of them started up and run at the same time ,you'll know who will be bothered by the sound [sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif] . Back in 1992 my friends and i had a Balsa Enforcer equipped with 3 of the Thunder Tiger ones ( if i'm not mistaken ) ,we took it out to the Mojave,CA desert and flew the heck out of it ,the measured sound exceded 185db .....

I know what he is talking about, it's that engine that used 6 or 8 spent co2 cartridges for the combustion chambers. I dont remember the name of it but it did little or nothing if it even ran at all.
Someone here has to know the name of it...

Yes, I have seen a few, one even has heat discoloration on it! If you do Google search for the name{ cant read it on your pict} it should bring up the site.
It was like 50 bucks for the whole engine back in the day, although it really is little more than a neat cigarette lighter.
