I do exstensive travel in the state of Florida. I would like to get some suggestions as to where I can see turbine jets flying on any given day anywhere in Florida. I am already familiar with Markham Park in the Fort Lauderdale area. Next week I will be in Jacksonville. Please send me some suggestions as to which fields I should visit.
Thank you!
-Matt
P.s. Future rc turbine pilot. (currently extreme prop speed pilot)

In the Homestead area there are two fields... Way down in the 200's (streets) South on Krome avenue.... Ask at the Hobby Nut Hobby shop, the owner flies at one of them...

There is a field in Apopka, just next to Orlando, that is jet friendly. This is home to RCACF. If you post an inquiry, I am sure the guys at Apopka or Ocala will contact you about jet flying.
I know that Sundays are popular times at Ocala for jets. Many of the jet flyers that are members travel as far as two hours to fly and usually make a day of it. Normally, once or twice a month, there are usually a half a dozen or more jets flying. Sometimes there will be as many as a dozen or more in attendance.
Also, I believe there is a field near Sarasota that is jet compatible.

Looking back at the original question though, I don't know that on any given day you'd see some turbine action. I met a guy at ocala this weekend that flys a roo and a Euro. He mentioned three days of the week that he was typically out there, but I don't remember what three they were. While there is a lot of turbine action at that field, it's probably weekend action. Don was going to make some changes on his roo and might be out there tomorrow. Best thing would be to get some phone numbers of some turbine guys that fly that field and get a feel for when they might be out next. I don't know the best way to get those numbers, except just go out there and ask bunch of questions.
On Sunday we flew some turbines around, but by far the most fun we had was flying this little tiny norvel ducted fan Mig 15. We hot fueled that thing and kept that engine running for over two hours of flying. Dave, Todd and I were doing Nascar speed pit crew action and keeping that little thing in the air. I'll never forget that afternoon, reminded me why I love this hobby, it's just plane (LOL) fun to go out there and tool around with this stuff.
Thanks again for the hospitality

Go over to Gateway rc club in JAX it is by the old dump .A guy named Jim is there virtually every day flying a turbine . He has racked up about 20hr or so in the past year. If you want his # PM me. I also fly there but only every 2-3 weeks on Sundays.

Matt,
My experience has been that if jets are flying in Ocala, it's most likely a Sunday. Our most active jet guys seem to show up then.
Make sure to bring a plane, jet or not! I'd be happy to have you as my guest pilot.

heliyyt,
You probably won't find any jet flyers out at Sarasota Field this weekend. They have gotten so bad at that field that we (turbine flyers) have all pretty much decided we don't want anything to do with that club. Let me give you some background...the field runs east to west. To the north the county has built a big maintenance building and to the west they have built a kennel. When we fly we have to stay well within the confines of the boundaries and not fly over those buildings. Mind you we have never had a problem with the restrictions and have tried to fly within the boundaries (we do slip occasionally) that we were given. Over the last few weeks though the president and the safety officer (someone who hates jets) have been giving us a load of crap everytime we go out there. Now it is at the point that hey have told us if you fly out the boundaries again you will be thrown out the club. Sound familiar to any other club in FL?
I personally got a call from the President one night stating that they have had complaints from the county about the jet flyers and that we have to control ourselves, and here is where it gets interesting. The same day we were out flying my friend brought out his MIG-15, but never flew it because he was having problems getting it started. Well the pres. brings up the fact that the red airplane with the star on the tail was reported by either someone at the county or club member saying he was out of the boundaries. When I brought up the fact that the plane never flew, he back peddled saying that he meant the person who owned that plane. Well that right there just put a bad taste in my mouth. Now the jet members have made note of all the times we have see a prop plane out of the "box" but have never heard of one person in say something to them about it or heard of anything being done about it. I will not be joining this club again, I was going to join to take my 6 year old son out there to teach him how to fly but I don't want my son being anywhere near these hypocrites.
The last thing I will say about this club is that if you read their newsletter they have stated, "They have the potential to be the #1 RC Club america." Well I have to disagree with that and say that their attitude at that field makes it one of the worst. So anyone who flys jets have fun and go on out there, you probably won't want to go back after that.
Patrick.

don't know if there are any jet flyers in the Pensacola area but the flying fields out there are nice. I heard the Georgia boyz come down every once in a while. I'm sure they still have access to the OLFs (outlying fields) that the Navy uses for teaching the studs.
if you give me a few more years there will be atlest one jet flyer out there.

If you want to see a birds eye view just checkout the website at our ocala field. Its one of the best field I have flown at in florida, other than the evens that are held here. www.ocalaflyingmodelclub.com Todd and I fly Jets every two weekends my Mirage is now down for a while getting a scale paint job for florida jets so I wont be flying her for a while but soon the Facet will be up and Tango, never less bring what you have and fly you will like our field.

I'm not a member of the SRQ club but I will join it soon.
The comments you made I have heard many times from other guys. Seems there is a click at SRQ to avoid and things will go well.
The other thing they make a big deal about is noise can't figure that one since there next to a garbage dump but it's a County ruling and it's County land.
Take Care

hey bro',
saweeeeeeeeeeeetttttt!!!!!!! I'll definitely look you up when I head out to P'Cola.
I assume they still fly out at Saufely and Holly OLF. I'm looking forward to flying my jets in the wide open sky out there. There's nothing like watching your bird arcing gracefully over the top of a loop with smoke on. Can't wait.
regards
buck
nice Pix of the airfield.

They fly turbines out of Deland (next to Daytona Beach), but they lock that place up like fort nox.
For what they charge to fly there you can buy a turbine

If you're in the southwest area of FL, try out Cape Coral. We are Jet friendly and have a great group of guys. (alright, there might be a few "others")
