Default Florida Jets update

Hi all,

I have received several questions about Fl. Jets and thought it might be best to answer them all here so the information can be passed around.

The headquarters Hotel is the 4 Points Sheraton on Florida Ave. If full, the Holiday in is right up the street.
We have a special travel agent, Cindy Burkey, and she has special rates for several hotels. [email protected]
All hotels are within 10 or 15 minutes form the site, depending on traffic.
The new addition to the runway is being completed tomorrow. This is a wide grass strip, adjacent to and butting up against, the hard surface runway for 600 feet, so there is no "bump" or transition between the two surfaces. This is a fabulous alternate runway that will be used at Top Gun as well.
There are No landing lights.
All that have pre-registered will receive a Parking Pass in the mail. Flight line Ribbons will be given to the pilots as they sign in.
Turbine Waivers are required. Foreign pilots need to bring a letter from their governing model organization that they are qualified to operate a turbine powered model.
There will be provisions to sign up for AMA membership on site.
Tents may be erected anytime after Noon on Wednesday, NOT BEFORE!!
Anyone wishing to ship a model may do so to FTE's address found on the web site,( FrankTiano.Com) We are only 4 minutes from the field. We will have a pick-up truck to help if needed.
There are plenty of camp sites on the property for Motor Home Coaches or small camping vehicles and trailers. They are charging $10 per night without electricity and $15 per night with electricity.
I am happy to answer any other questions, just call me at 863-607-6611 or email me.
Hope this helps. Thanks. FT

Hi Ben

Before everyone hops all over this. I just talked with Illona at AMA and as of today, the Affliate Memberships for foreign pilots can be purchased on site from the CD of a Sanctioned Event. That may change next week, because Membership is on the agenda for the EC meeting this weekend. Illona asked me to call back on Wednesday next week to see what, if anything, had changed.

What happens if we come from the free world, where we don't need some busybody's permission to fly a model plane and so there is no such thing as being "qualified" to operate a jet model?

Read between the lines guys! The AMA asks that you bring a "Note" from your model organization to satisfy the Insurance Carrier here in the USA that the pilot is indeed qualified to fly one of these things. So, my suggestion is this: Bring a Note! Perhaps the President of your local flying club will scribble something for you? Let's be honest, we certainly do not wish to have an "unqualified " person piloting a model at 200 mph do we? Of course not. So the "Note" seems the best way to keep everyone calm.
As always, thanks for listening.

Easy now, Harry. It's just a peice of paper.

Thanks for the update, Frank. Looking forward to the event. Had a great time last year.
