There is something about this story that I don't understand. Why anybody wants to give his expensive plane to somebody that he did not know and why anybody wants to fly plane of a stranger .

I am not going to get into it here about who did what. But you might want to Contact Debbi Sherrow from tucson (or others from the TIMPA club) about that MIG 15.

email me for a number or address since I don't want to post her info here.

Careful, there are a lot of us out here that are rational and intelligent. Just because this is the first time you have head of something like this does not mean it does not happen out east.

I believe this is exactly what the AMA is looking for. There is no better time to start than now with the turbine community coming together to protect themselves from those who don't care and dont' respect the rules.

What if this plane had crashed and created a large f*** or even worse hit someone. We can't sit around and wait until these things happen. It's time to act.

I challange those in the that club, individuals who know the two people involved or others in that area to take immediate action.

FACT: He who started this post has not responded in 3 days.
FACT: $5K is alot of money, yes even to those of us who fly jets
FACT: Very reasonable questions and accounts have been raised in this thread that have not been answered

Opinion: If I were being sued and LOST and I thought it was unreasonable, I would be searching for help everywhere I could. In his defense, maybe his counsel has advised him not to talk to anybody regarding the facts as they might used against him. In anycase, those of use who are "reasonable" (and thankfully that includes many of us in this hobby!) would not have left the field that day without excessive, undeniable requests to "help" anyway we could. That would include getting his phone number, email, his BRAND NEW RCU call name(if he didn't know about RCU, tell him about it) etc.... with multiple follow ups to see how he is doing and what his plans are for getting him in the air again. Hey, we all have been in similar situations in our lives and it takes A WHOLE LOT of tact, PR skills and diplomacy just to get by.

I'm sure you all know Ehab(go look in the classifieds, he is always selling some jet or some turbine, GOD that guy has toys!!!) He is by far the most maticulous flier I know and he was the first one I went to with my ducted fan BVM F-86. It deadsticked and the wings where ripped off with some minor damage. Granted it was not major damage, but had I been flying it, their would have likely been more damage. He was obvoius distraught but I knew I could learn alot from the experience. Just like was previously posted, anyone whom I trust to fly my airplanes can crash them as easily as I can. If it weren't for our flying buddies, no brothers, we would all learn so much less at a much higher cost. It is unfortunate that facts have to be misconstrued by anybody.

After that mouth full, happy flying!!!!

Only good friends fly each other jet not strangers. You are one hundred percent to be blame because of your ignorants. this kind of situration not only happen in this hobby but in your day to day life. Making good judgment keep you from things like this.
If you was a test pilot as JOHNNY stated. Every body would be on your side. But since you know better not to fly an turbine power aircraft without a waiver making you the victim. [:'(]

Default I disagree

Unknown,

When I was starting out in this hobby many people in my club gave me stick time on their "expensive" toys. This is what we do in this hobby. I was given the sticks, three mistakes high, of many machines I didn't believe I had the skills to fly. The difference was these people stood by my side and were ready to take control if I did anything stupid. All of this was discussed before the flight. I believe this exposure is good for the hobby. Buddy boxes have made this even better.

Turbines are a different issue (at AMA fields at least). I have been offered the sticks of many turbine planes ( I am more than capable of flying them now). However, I decline because I do not have a waiver yet.

Not knowing the facts of this situation I can only tell you my opinion. I believe if I give the transmitter to another person, I take responsibility for whatever happens to my plane. With that said, I have flown test flights with negative results and I always feel bad and have offered to help rebuild or defer some of the cost. I have yet to see anyone at my local field take a penny from a test pilot for an unfortunate crash.

Rules to live by for R/C test pilots (from the mind of Mark):

1) Verbally state the terms of the flight and gain agreement before taking the sticks
2) Get this in writing if necessary
3) Understand the justice system doesn't necessarily understand what we take to be common sense
4) Only fly an airplane you can afford to replace (you may have to)
5) Videotape all test flights
6) Ground check the plane, yourself, before flying (twice)
7) Review the expected flight characteristics with the owner
8) Check for excessive control throws
9) Use a buddy box
10) Check the battery with your own loaded meter (I've seen many crashes because of weak batteries)

If this top 10 is too much,

Don't fly other peoples planes, or drive their cars, or house sit, etc., etc.
