Man ... I've had a bird-strike on takeoff before, but could ya just image the mess of a moose-strike as you're just getting ready to rotate ?

Moose is probably worse down the impeller blades than birds!

OK, we've all heard the one about the chicken gun and the frozen bird, but how do you test for a moose strike? How do you propel the moose toward the aircraft? A moose catapult? A moos-apult? Strap a RATO bottle to his antlers, light fuse, and get away?

FWIW, moose are about the size of a horse. We've got a minor perspective trick going on here that makes the moose look as tall as the F-16 if you don't take into account distance from camera to moose and moose to F-16.

If that's Anchorage, I can confirm that moose are an issue up there. I used to cross-country ski on the groomed trails the city maintains in the winter. You always had to watch out for moose on the downhills--you didn't want to run into a mama moose and get her angry!

I met a guy this summer who hit a deer with his landing gear just after takeoff. He was flying a Grumman Tiger.

I live In Canada and have stood beside a Bull Moose. I am 6'2" tall and the shoulder of the Moose was as tall as me. " ...about the size of a horse ..." a Clydesdale!!! They are a real danger driving up North. They have derailed trains too!!! (nothing left of the Moose).
