More Facets

Gary,
Do you have part numbers for the Yellow flap hinges? I'm just starting my 2300 and I like the flap set up you have. I went to Yellow's web site, but couldn't find any hinges listed.
Thanks, Wayne

The P-80 IS NOT RECOMMENDED for the FACET 1200 unless derated. David Rivera of Florida is flying a Facet-1200 with a P-70 and it's performance is spectacular to say the least.
The 1200 airframe was NOT designed for engines of the P-80 class thrust range.

Hi Wayne:
The 1200 utilizes the Yellow, MEDIUM offset hinge and the 2300 uses the LARGE offset hinge.
They are sold in pairs and you will need 3 pair per aircraft.
I will have Great Northern post this mod to their web site this evening.
(www.greatnorthernmodels.com) A simplified sample skecth attached.
While the FACET flaps are very effective as designed, we are always looking to inprove our prodcuts and when I saw these flap hinges at Toledo ' 03, I decided to give them a try on our next factory ship. The use of thes hinges has enhanced the flap performace even fruther and is worth the effort and minimal cost to install.
These are very easily retrofitted to all exisitng completed ships.

Can anyone post pictures of their RAM500 installation for the FACET 1200? I have mine framed up, ready to cover and am looking for ideas about how to maximally separate the Rx from the fuel pump & ECU while keeping the ECU battery forwards.

[&o]No pictures of my 500 plumbing yet. I plan to mount the ECU battery on top of the sill plate (main tank cover) as far forward as the hatch will allow. The fuel pump will be strapped to the top of the battery. I plan to mount the ECU just aft of the battery, on the sill plate again. The solenoids will fit on either side of the battery.
The propane tank is jammed between the fuse side and the main tank just in front of former F4.
The receiver will be mounted on the side of the fuse in the compartment with the rudder servo. That will give me about as much separation from the fuel pump and ECU as possible.
Thanks to some advice Greg Moore gave me, I was able to wedge a 16 ounce Dubro tank in the compartment with the wing joiner. There is enough room in the compartment forward of the joiner to put a 14 ounce Dubro tank. That gives you 70 ounces of fuel without a header tank. If I can't find somewhere to shoehorn in a UAT I will use a paper filter pickup like the article on the JPO website. http://www.jetpilots.org
If you put both tanks on their sides you have room between them, on top of the joiner, for an air tank for the brakes.
If you check out the Facet 1200 Building Pictorial you will see some great pictures from lov2flyrc. He didn't use a RAM 500 but the pictures will give you a good idea of what I'm talking about.

PM me if you have any questions. I'm ahead of you on equipment installation but you're ahead of me on covering. (I hate to cover!!)

Pat,
Talked to the fowl person yesterday. Trying to get him to commit to the fly in. Got your's ready yet? Looking forward to seeing one fly. Gary Baker has one also, hopefully his will be ready. I dont have a lot of time off between now and the fly in, hopefully I can get it stuffed and test flown in time.

I just put the finishing touches on mine and it is ready for range testing and then hopefully a test flight. I hope to accomplish this next week. I plan to get several flights on it before the Austin meet. I saw Kerry Sterner's fly at Florida Jets and I was impressed. I also got to see the new performance version of the facet 1200 with swept wings and anhedral stabs and It was also impressive. Mine weighs just over 26# RTF.
Hope to see you guys in Austin!

Got the flight controls all hooked up and had to head back to Chicago for work. Hope to start getting the motor mounted next weekend, there sure is a lot of stuff to go in a little space. Have a plan but only time will tell. Still need to find a place for the brake valve and servo and the air tank. Should be a nice airplane, hopefully I can get this one sold quickly then start on my big one. See ya in Austin.

Tom, depending on where you locate the UAT, I have a couple suggestions for the brake valve and tank.
I personally have the valve and servo on FL-1 and the air tank zip-tied to the top of F-5 (towards F-4). I have also placed the servo and valve on a small plate and screwed it to the top of F-7 in the past.

I thought about glassing mine but went with Monocote. I forgot how much I hate monokoting. It would definitely be more dent resistant glassed, but I had a kangaroo with monokoted wings that held up OK and I had 4 rolls of monokote that I won in a pilots raffle last year.
