WARNING, WARNING....
I purchased my 10X when they first came out...96 97 or so.. I never have sent the transmitter in for any service until now... Went downstairs to help a friend setup the failsafe delay for his Jet Cat P-120 over the phone. Turned on my transmitter and got nothing, but beep, beep, beep, with a message on the Screen "Backup data Error"!! you don't want to ever see that screen / warning unless you've backed up all your aircraft programs... I never have taken the "Data Safe" unit out of the box! I did do some long hand written out backups for other aircraft in my 10X, but guess what no BobCat data backup... shoot I lost it all.
This is not going to be fun to reprogram, I had Crow out rudders, yep my rudders & nose wheel require three channels, in-flight gyro sensitivity settings, three flight modes, slide bar master & down elev braking, gear up mixing to deactivate brake valve movement with in-flight down elevator inputs, spoiler and flap reflex with mode changes, all modes with separate flight trims...to say nothing about all the custom servo throws and limits... shoot this is going to take at least a half a day redoing this program.....
My advise is if you have an older 10X backup your data NOW !!! My 9.6 volt trans battery is in great shape, but when the backup battery gets low the main battery doesn't help!! You will loose the data anyway! I just flew my BobCat and used this transmitter recently at the Tucson Jet Rally all was fine then. I guess when they say to replace the backup battery every five years they really mean it...

PS And now I understand clearly why they include the Data Safe system with the Radio, it's not just to give you something else to play with....Nope you really are going to need it !!! My negative comment to JR is why didn't you at least include a warning screen to let us know that the backup battery is getting low ? I guess that would be asking a little to much

I guess that battery is something you never think about until it's too late. I've never changed mine either and I got my 10X before they were available to the public. The 10X actually came out around 98 I think. Can't remember for sure. Regardless, that's 6+ years on that battery.

You really need to send it in. I tried to do it myself and believe me-it is more work than you want to take on. The back of the case just does not pop off and the battery jumps out at you. Horizon is really great to work with-the last one I sent in they had back to me in 7 days after the date I mailed it. PS it also did not loose any of the models I had in the memory-though they say make sure to back up. Scott

Actually I did make several copies of the backup data form, provided in the back of the manual and did do written backups for most of the other aircraft in my 10X. Par for the course for me, (I do things the hard way always) I didn't take the time to write down the most complex program in my 10X the one for my BobCat, it figures.... My guess is there are a lot of JR owners that don't have current accurate backups for there aircraft.. my advise is STOP WHAT YOUR DOING AND CREATE ACCURATE BACKUPS FOR ANY COMPLEX AIRCRAFT SETUPS YOU HAVE --- AND HOPE YOU DON'T SEE THAT KILLER SCREEN WHILE YOUR DOING IT..
Why I never tried the Data Safe system I'm not sure maybe it was that the interface required a Serial port connection ----- as I understand it JR has a brand new system which is setup for our newer USB porting. Oh well, whatever method you use long hand or Data Safe JUST DO IT

I would presume the manual address the fact that the memory totally depends on the backup batteries condition
I would presume the manual address the fact that the memory totally depends on the backup batteries condition
Right on the first page (actually pg2 since pg1 is just the cover) it mentions the potential loss of data if the memory battery fails, and then on pg10, section 6.2 explains the memory battery is more detail, including the fact that it is expected to last for 5 years, and that all pre-programmed data will be lost if this battery fails. It also points out that if the battery fails while the TX is in operation, no loss of control will result (the main TX battery's power keeps the necessary info around) but the info will then be lost as soon as the TX is powered off.
BTW, for those who don't want to use the datasafe, or the written data sheets at the end of the manual, another option (which I use since I have never removed my datasafe from its box) is that you very easily can transfer the data from one TX to another .. so there are copies of my models on a buddy's TX, and vice-versa. Unles we both experience memory-battery failure at the same time (unlikely), we are protected. Still, the use of non-volatile memory would be a much better solution.

About a year ago, I played around with the program and I remember that were was a new disk 2 for a new version for windows xp. Can someone send me that? This is the first time I've used it since then and I had to pull out an old machine with win98 to make sure I had a good back up. I did both my 8103's while I was at it. But I'd like to have this running on my new machine as well. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? My install says I'm using version 1.07 Am I remembering this wrong?
Plus, I heard the new software lets you make changes on the computer then download to radio, is this possible with the same box I have at the computer or do you need a new box for the new software?
Thanks,
Sean
