I have had numerous people contacting me about the Facet review I did for RCJI asking for more flight details. Just to clarify, I did not write the flight review as indicated in the artical, this portion was written by my good friend George DelMoral. The build section of the artical was written by me. If you have any additional questions regarding the Facets flight performance please contact George ([email protected]) as he has gathered quite some time on this airframe. As stated in the review, mine was lost on it's maiden due to servo failure..... My flight performance knowledge of this airframe is very limited
Thanks,
Todd

Thanks Todd. As Todd indicated RCJI got things a little backwards. I would be glad to answer any specific questions you may have regarding the Facet 1200. The review was written rather quickly after Todd's incident.

: I'm no expert of any particular subject, but I probably have to the most flight time on this partcular airframe than anybody and am currently flying a prototype of Kerry's new HP version. If I can be of some help, please ask.
Thanks,
George

Todd,
I might add that you and George did a great job on the article. I know that writing an article like that isn't easy and it is time consuming. But it is great for old pros and new guys alike!
Thanks again

Todd, Geroge,
Thank you fellas for the time spent to develop and prepare the fine subject review and flight report. It appears there was a breakdown in the translation from Pennsylvania Ducth to "Bloody Old English" when I clarified for RCJI who did what.
My only regret is that Todd did not have the opportunity to fly the 1200 for the season.
George, hope to see you at Fenteress and get some 1200/HP formation flight in.

Thanks guys. I remember seeing the pic of George's 1200 HP now. I missed the anhedral stabs. It has a nice look though. Can someone comment how knife edge is affected with the anhedral stabs?
Thanks

The HP (High Performance) version flys nearly identical to the straight wing/stab version except that it has improved flap effectivness due to the incorporation of the Yellow Aircraft offset hinge use.
I will be sending a few Pictures of the Factory 1200/HP tonight to Great Northen for their site update. I fully expect to release a 2300/HP as well.
The HP version will be released in several months after the test program is full completed.

Knife Edge flight: Initially I thought I was getting some coupling in knife edge, but subsequent flights have shown otherwise. I attribute the "coupling" to being pilot induced during the maiden flight.
As Kerry stated, both planes fly IDENTICAL with the exception of flaps down. I would also have to say that the original is (slightly) faster than the HP and the original will snap roll a little quicker.
Gary, nice to meet you also. Hope you are enjoying the 2300.
P.S. I do have more photos for anyone interested. Just PM or e-mail me.

A lot of your 1980's pattern ships had anhedral stabs. I had a plane called a Curare that knife edged very well with anhedral stabs.
George & Kerry
I am really enjoying the Facet 2300.
Just got back from putting 2 more flights on it (would have been more, but my fueling pump battery died). First flight of the day, I had my very first flame out. I was at about 1/3 throttle headed away from the runway several hundred feet off the end of the runway and only about 100' altitude. When I heard it quit, I just knew this was going to end bad. I had to make a 180 deg turn to get back towards the runway, and then a 90 to turn to final. I didn't think there was any way I would make the runway. When I realized I was going to make the runway still carrying quite a bit of speed, I dropped the flaps (what little wind we had was in my face, 90 deg cross to the runway). It touched down right in front of me and rolled about 30' to a stop. Everyone there was pretty impressed and congratulated me on my save. I told them that it was the Facet's fault it turned out well.
I guess I didn't purge the air out of UAT well enough. I refueled it and ran it on the ground for while holding the plane at different angles and shaking it. I shut it down and topped off the tanks again and flew it with no problems. I gotta go stock up on Kero for the summer!!!
