CBM F-16 Finally Done
I finally finished my CBM F-16. Took it out for the maiden flight this weekend. It flies really well on the YS 45 had no problem taking off from a grass strip (the clubs runway is like a golf course green) . Once I got it trimmed up it was a solid ACFT even with winds gusting to 15 kts. The problem was the landing [] 10-15 feet short of the runway on final the prop leaves the ACFT. Minor damage to the Mains and the front gear door. Already fixed just waiting on replacement prop nuts and prop washer from tower. This time I will double nut it and use Lock-tight.
BTW Shaun I will call you this week to order the F-18 single.

RE: CBM F-16 Finally Done
Thanks
I set the CG per the directions at 14.3 cm from the root with the gear down and no gas. Comes out a little nose heavy after its gassed and the gear are up, but flies great once it is trimmed out (If the prop stays on )

Stalker,
If that was a ducted fan or jet, you would get rich quick in this business!! And I mean that as a compliment, not that there is anything wrong with pushers at all.
Tell me, how does it fly? Pretty fast? How about slow speeds?
Awesome finish, probably the best CBM I've seen.
Are you sure it is not a Yellow ARF converted to pusher?[X(]

Completely Awesome! You have re-lit the fire for me. I looked and looked for one of these for the longest and just couldn't decide, but wow yours looks fantastic! Any chance of getting a close up pic of the rear engine installation? Very nice!

Mine is a Yellow converted to a pusher. Here it is about half way through the painting process. The CBM in this post looks like it has a finish that will be hard to match though. BTW, my plane looks small next to this F-15 because this is a Byron F-15 (HUGE!!!!). The other F-16 in the picture is also very large at 1/6 scale. I took these pictures at this past weekend's jet fly in at Fentress in Virginia.

Congratulations on a mostly successful test flight and an INCREDIBLE finish. I am currently building the CBM A-10 with twin OS 25s and Kress RK 720 fans. I would love to ask you a few questions about the glassing and finishing techniques you used. I will be smiling from ear to ear if I can get even close to a finish like yours.
Did you use the .5 or .75 glass cloth, what did you use for the epoxy? How did you do the panel lines and that great emblem on the vertical stabilizer? How did you do those great gear doors, were they in the kit that way or was that just your own creation? what is the final weight? Thank you for any information you can provide. You can reply directly through email if you like.
Thanks again
Anthony

RE: CBM F-16 Finally Done
Can't remember what the thickness of the glass was. The Panel Lines were done by first priming sanding smooth, then applying narrow masking tape (3m)& priming over that. Sand lightly , just enough so that the primer won't peel, and then pull the tape off. Now you have recessed panel lines. After that pre-shade the panel lines with black paint. Paint the model with semi gloss paint, the panel lines will be highlighted due to the pre-shading. After it is painted apply the decals ( I got the from Yellow). Now go back over the panel lines lightly with a pencil and then smear the lines, gives it the dirty look. After that is done clear coat with dead flat clear to protect the weathering and decals. The Gear doors are described in the manual for the kit. Final weight I guess between 9-10lbs.
Hope this helps.

Most use .75 glass (per man.) that way you can lighly sand the weave and not go right through it---
That is the best finish on a CBM F-16 I have seen

I am using a YS .45RE, Hatori angle header, and Macs pipe. This is the old (circa 1989) kit and had never been built before. They build much lighter than the new kit does. My only real concern will be the weight of the new scale gear. If there is a problem, I can always throw SpringAirs back in. Final weight with gear doors and scale gear will be within a pound or so of the CBM. Here are pictures I took right before I started painting.
