Tharpe's plane is nice and it's huge for a 500 size turbine.
I talked with him about it a year ago at a model show, it was very impressive. I am not keen on the engine placement though. A fod screen is a definite must.

BobCat?? I think if this exact same plane didnt have 'bob violet' mark on it , nobody would fly it. Everytime i saw a post on a bobcat, the guy ask for help to setup something to make it fly good. Gyro setup, landing setup ( 'cause of the air brake on the landing gear) ect..Always something to setup...Make a search on BobCat and see by yourself. It's a beginner airplane?? Go figure....

Shane & Shok, no 1 size only, intended for the 54mm diameter size turbines. Generous wing area keeps the wing loading and speed down making for user friendly handling. Shok, looking at the placement of the front of the engine over the wing trailing edge, you'll see this actually provides FOD protection.

After I finish my F-15 in a few months I hope that BTE's Reaction will be ready to ship. I want a "cheapie" turbine model that can handle the everday rigors of a grass field operation yet have retracts on the bird. The facet looks like a nice plane but I love the lines of the BTE Reaction. At 80" in wingspan it is a sizable model. I might even build a Wren to put in it and learn a little bit while I am doing it.

Shane,
No one mention the Isobar. If you like it I know where there is
a kit available. Not a ARF and you must have experience to
build it, but a pleasure to fly and extremely durable.

Is there a website so I can go and check it out? Thanks.
I think BTE and the Tango were designed for the smaller turbines. I might run into trouble trying to shoe horn the big one in. Why didn't I buy the smaller turbine? [&:] Oh yeah, it was almost the same price as the one I bought. LOL.

As a newbie I always liked the BVM T-33, and after much consideration decided this would be my trainer, and have bought all the bits to go including a very nice Wren MW 54 MKIII.
Having now done this I am now in the market for a cheap jet trainer!!! Reality hit home after all the purchases and also following the downing of my Cap 232 (flutter, my fault in the building....) and my view is to now get something like a Roo Reaper Rookie (why do they all start with R???) so I can be less worried about the capital coming down to earth, and can fully detail the T-33
I guess maybe I would have been better off going the other way and getting the trainer first, but I felt that the T-33 could be such a model, and in fairness with its straightforward layout and good wing loading, it probably is, given the wing root cusp has been sorted.
The best way to analyse what to do (hindsight a wonderful thing!!) is to set the max budget, work out what is affordable within that range, work out what the spares and availability could cost (wings, fins, fuselage etc) and then find the one that fits within the budget and spares balance, has the right level of build for the time you have available that you like the look of and that someone you know can help you learn on!! I am sounding like a salesman!!
I thought the Facet 'orrible to look at until I saw one fly. I thought the Roo was too quick until I saw it slow right down!!
Do the research once you have the budget and then go for it. If you build it properly and at the right quality, you should not lose your investment if you don't like the model you have chosen and then can opt for a change.
However, if I win the lotter tonight I will maiden with the T-33............

DM,
The only one that I have seen is WWW.PlanesPlus.com , but the last time I checked the site was down for remodeling. I would contact Don Kanak who owns it. I have his email address as [email protected]. Hope this helps.

Yes, they are still under construction or something, but i looked through some of my old mags and found it is a little too expensive for my buget.
These are the jets i am looking at right now, all for 12-13lb turbines
Y/A Stingray~$400
IAD Serpent ~$450
BTE Reaction 54 ~$TBA This is the one i am leaning towards i think
Jurassic Eco ~$230 which is cheap, but it is a Half kit
Any more i am missing for 12lb turbines under $500?
Thanks
David

Those are two more i forgot about, also the two most ugly. But in the long run be a lot cheaper due to no retracts and such. Just got an e-mail from bruce and he said the same thing about cost, but want a jet like that because it is more of a sport jet than some speed demon. But for the price, the eco looks like the best, but also looks very quick.

I have an old Midwest Jetster that I am building now.
One of these years I will actually finish it. LOL.
I think I should get of my arse and get out to the garage, huh? [8D]

Speaking of the Thunderbird 2. I just saw a preview for the movie last Friday when I took my kids to see Harry Potter. Looks kinda interesting.

I used to get up at 6 AM every Saturday to watch these back in the late 60's when they came over to the US.

Well the Roo, Rookie, Hotspot..are all deltas and they have their quirks like tucking in on a turn. I put Canards on my Roo, made a huge improvement.
I also fly a Topcat from Top Gun Aircraft it has the straight wing with flaps,
look at the Tango from Planes Plus Don Kanak
