I have heard that you can order 8411s from the factory already reversed. Anyone know anything about this? The steering servo needs to be reversed and I don't want to buy another Match Box if possible.

That is very true, I belive that they are 10$ more than the regular price and they do them as needed.

Oh, and down here in Texas we recommend JR 4131 for steering over digital 8411. Steering into a rut in the runway can pop the nylon gear of the 8411 (we've done it a few times) cause the holding power of the 8411. The 4131 has all the torque needed and still gives a little in the ruts.

Yes, you can order the m factory direct, now that JR has finally put the appropriate stickers on the packaging.

A few years ago I had my order for some reversed servos cancelled by Horizon, and I received a letter stating that due to the 1986 Safe Drinking Water act, the servos could not be sent from the factory to an individual in CA unless there was a warning sticker advising the customer not to eat or otherwise ingest any parts of the servo.

The "regular" servos were sent from a warehouse in CA, not from the IL location, and therefore did not require a sticker (!?!). Now that the packaging has the "This product is known to the state of California to contain carcinogenic substances" kind of sticker on it, all is well, and shipping is legal. Your government dollars at work - go figure.

Hi,
Why not reverse the servo yourself? Swap the two motor leads and the two outside leads on the pot.
I used to do it on my Kraft servo's, just recently did it on some JR servos, a lot less room than the Kraft, but it can be done.

Cermark also makes an in-line servo reverser......basicly a 6" extension with the circuitry on it.

Yes,

I'm sure Horizon advises against it, but reversing the servos isn't difficult at all. There's some gunk they use to keep everything held in place in there, so you have to get through that somehow (you can use MEK to dissolve it, or carefully cut through it with an X-acto). There isn't a lot of room in there, so you'll need a small-tip soldering unit and steady hands.

Sean, some people swear by them, but I will not use any "reverser". I've seen (owned ) a flakey one and have heard of some disasters (non-jet related). I'm with you and would not advise it or trust them.

Just my preference and experience (you can't argue about that )

I don't know of any used in a jet application. Maybe someone will come on here and swear by them? I'd be interested to know which one is being sworn on.

I'd be willing to do extensive prop testing on it.

I have used ones like this for my less "expensive" jets. It reverses one servo and controls the center point. I never had a problem with them but looking back on it it wasn't the smartest move. I don't think it will be a big deal on something like the steering. You can actually adjust the steering center before each flight if needed, HHMMM.

Kenny, your setup is ok and correct. We're talking about these little 10 buck micky mouse wired reversers.

Matchbox's are ok. Your heart can stop beating 200 times per minute LOL

Kenny, I didn't see your second post on reversers before I posted mine.

Regardless, you mention the ability to center steering. Are you setup to have a trimable nose steering coupled to rudder by mix?

Sean, I wasn't referring to a specific jet application, but people are using them on big proppers and have no trouble using them at all. I don't like them for even the crappiest thing. (Again, just my preference and experience.) The one I'm familiar with is the Expert brand.

Kenny, a Matchbox is the way to go if you're not going to get a "reversed" servo. Sean's suggestion of crossing the steering wires will work also if you can do it.

It allows you to use one channel to control 3 channels. The bad part is it only throws the servo to full deflection. It works well on things like gear, speed brake, tail hook etc. I have it hooked up on a three position switch, 1st position gear up speed brake down, 2nd gear down speed brake down, 3rd gear down speed brake up.

I can't cross the lines because it is so tight in there. Also with the problems with the big hornet breaking steering lines, I want to keep it as straight forward as possible.

Crum. I would order a reversed 4131 or 4721 from dougs hobby shop the big JR guy. He's got them for less than 90bucks or so.

Xpander sounds cool. A lot to be thinking about on that switch though.

FWIW, Andy Lowes from Electrodynamics sells serveo reverser wires. If Andy makes and sells it, it must be 100% bullet proof (well almost 100%)
