I've been a resident of this area ( atlantic/ocean counties)for few years and an avid jet fan & user and there are ZERO jet freindly fields.
I usually travel to jet events to do flying , my birds require a tarmac surface .A grass field can be had by going to Delaware about 105 miles to do any type of flying of Jets,
Don't know when you are returning home, but there will be a large Air education event (FAA approved) at the Ocean City airport, the second weekend of sept, should have a few jets
(turbine/electric) in attendence

There is Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn NY as well. Still quite a ride to get to from Ocean County. We have flown jets sucessfully at the Ocean County Modelers grass field. Over fly area there is unlimited, albeit the runway may or may not be a little rough.

Bob,
Saw the email, good to hear from you.
To the best of my knowledge South Jersey is not a real hotbed of model jet activity. I personally fly at Valley Forge, PA, but that is not the greatest field for jets. I am pretty much the only guy crazy enough to fly a turbine there. Quakertown, PA is a much better choice but there are no regular jet modelers there that I know of.
There is some activity at Lums Pond in Delaware. I have also heard of guys flying at the old Lakehurst Naval Air Station as well as an abandoned airfield in Bridgeport, NJ. Unfortunately I have no first hand knowledge regarding those fields.
Wish I could have been of more help.
Got a question for you. With land as valuable as it is in the SF area where on earth do guys fly model jets around San Fran?

I am working on my waiver now, but we do not fly jets at my current field. I fly in Livermore CA, which is about 20 miles east of Oakland. Our field is on the old land fill. Its only '400 feet and we have a pretty strict noise rule so I will go down to Santa Clara (Tomcats) which about 10 miles south of San Jose. The TCD that I am working with to get my waiver flys there as well as a lot of Factory Reps. Its a cool field and the guys that fly there are very cool as well. I just wanted to see some east coast action! Thanks.

Bob,
Thursday is R/C day at the Sussex Airport in far North New Jersey. We get to fly on the runway there for a day. It's a long drive, but it should be a good day. 9am to 5pm and you get a free ticket to come back to the airshow.

I did not think there was such a thing as a long drive in Jersey. come on down to Texas and I will show you a long drive. A pilot friend who flies for Southwest told me that he was on a nonstop from Los Angeles to Houston. It took 1hr 10min from LA to Elpaso but 1hr 30min from Elpaso to Houston, and that is in a 737. There are miles and miles of Texas.

Bob,
I'm not sure if there will be any turbines. It is a general fly-in for all types of planes and it is in the middle of the week. If you are here for the Big Apple rally (NY in Sept.), there should be plenty turbines there.
Doug,
For People in NJ, anything that takes more than a minute is long. I'm sure lots of Jersey folk fall asleep at the wheel traveling through the vast space in Texas.

Sideshow,
Nope, I don't have the bird complete. Nor do I have the waiver...yet! I will most likely bring a ducted fan and a bipe to have fun with. hopefully I will have everything done and ready for the Big Apple rally.
