Ahh.. Ok, I see what you mean now. I would probably also cover up the notches that are not actually needed to clear parts of the engine.

Bob

Exactly !

So if i read this correctly, you have the buzzing noise for virtually all of the time youre applying the brake.

If thats correct, and you are getting sufficient braking as you apply down elevator, then Id suggest trying a restrictor.
( Not that Ive ever done that.)

ive set mine up, on three models so far, with either a 2 posn switch, or mixed with down elevator so that as soon as i apply down elevator it fully locks the brake.

Ive never been able to achieve proportional braking......but Im probably missing something. A restrictor maybe..

Hi.
Yes you are right, i am hearing the buzzing (switch mode) noise almost for the full down elevator range except for the last 10%
Don't you block the brakes when you are using the on/off valve mode?
I don't have the experience with those brakes but they seem very powerfull and able to lock the wheels pretty easily.
Thank you all for your help (i am new to all those systems)

Yes i lock the brakes.

What do others do, ( when using this valve?)

I really don't know
The brakes do look proportional to me judging from the wheel friction i sense with my hands but only at pressures below 6 bar.
At 8 bar i am using now they lock almost instantly when the tank is full but at 6 bar the air is just not enough.
Has anybody thought of using an electric pump instead?
I know it sounds foolish but i am playing with the idea of an electric air pump, if i find something suitable that is...

Hello,

On my boomerang I have installed a Behotec valve which actuates retracts and barkes. The brake output is hooked to a Jet Tronic single action valve to regulate pressure. When cylinder valve is moved to one extremity brakes are activated.
The good thing about this setup is that both retracts and brakes are coupled and i am only using 1 channel activated by 2 switches and some mixing on my radio.
The only problem i am not able to fix is the buzzing sound which is continuous (Brakes on or off position).
Any help in this respect would be much appreciated.

On the other hand, i have the Spring Air HD 101 retracts installed with wire struts. As Spring Air have released oleo struts for this application, could anyone advise if subject oleos are compatible with trim wheels and brakes rims.

Thanks. Regards.

Hi Guys,

I know this is a little off the subject, but since I was successful with my BB using the conventional radio system with a whip antenna. What do you guys think of using spektrum technology for my next jet project? Any problems reported?

I wouldn't use 2,4ghz for any serious plane just yet because in my mind there are many things against it near in a crowded city
because there are too many apparatus using the 2,4ghz band, many of those exceeding the normal power levels and bandwidth.
I have been reading that at least one jet (flash) crash was caused from receiving problems but this is not certain beyond doubt so the jury is still out.
The 2,4 ghz band is severely plagued with man made noise and it also can be affected from buildings and air properties like humidity which makes the received signal strength somewhat unpredictable.
The antenna radiation pattern is also directional and not omnidirectional which means that you must follow the plane with the transmitter.
This is only my opinion and i will gladly hear any other opinion on the matter.

Hey Hendrix I also use the Jet tronics brake valve,What I do is not use the propotional setting but ust the on or off setting. And yes it will lock the brakes up like that so I put some BVM brake lube on the in side of the brakes. That way it slows them up nice and no lock ups,the brake valve will use a lot of air when set up the other way.

I think the pros and cons of the 2.4 GHZ debate is a can of worms that could take this thread way off topic! Do we need to do it here?

Hi.
Thank you for the information, i am thinking of using the valve in the on/off mode also.
Do you think that some silicon grease might do the trick?
Are you aware of any alternatives to BVM lube that will work?

I agree and i am sure that there will be a lot of different opinions.
I love my Boomerang
Someone once told me (in this thread) that i will love the Boomerang no matter what scars and dents it has, how true this is!

I flew my boomer with a Spektrum first, and then switched to an xtreme module in my 10X. Have about 25 flights with that system and so far it has been perfect. I am flying it in my other planes too with good results. I have the receiver mounted up high with the antenna sticking up in the cockpit area. Bob

Hi.
My problem with the 2,4ghz is in crowded cities like Athens where everybody is literally doing it's own and the
2,4 ghz band is very noisy, and not in less dense populated areas.
The other things that's bother me is that once you buy a radio you are stuck with it because you must use
a receiver of the same brand as the standards have not yet got set and that i do like
my 12 and 17 (11+6 switches) channel receiver. Last time i checked only Futaba has a 12 channel system.
Btw can anybody recommend a good proportional brake valve that does not consume that much air?
I just checked and the valve is fitted with an air restrictor and still consumes a lot of air.
It can be of any type including servo operated which i think are better in this area (from what i read so far)
I guess i will go for the UP6 valve although there is a new version of the jet tronics valve that advertises as loss free.

Repairing BI boom wing clamp.
This information is for anybody who needs to repair then ply plate on the boom wing clamps.
The ply plate is accessed through the side of the boom, and cannot be repaired through the top of the boom as the plate has two notches which locate into two vertical ply formers, here are some pictures on how it was done.

I did find that the wing clamps do not go fully up so I filed the nut in half, The cative nut was to find out the length of the bolt required but it works out to be 9mm on every bolt. I must say that I like the looks of the wing clamping system on the new Elan

Update: I just found that they are the same, i just didn't examined the last photo well.
Good job but i doubt that i can do it also in case....

Just a quick question.

Has anyone rebuilt the front half of the fuselage center section? By chance, have you made any templates for new pieces?

I ask this because I had an air to ground incident when my fuel filter started leaking air on the suction side of my fuel pump. Needless to say, I lost power at the worst possible time, TAKEOFF.

Gary I smashed up the front of my boomer after a similar fuel problem, but mine was more of an air to tree incident []
I managed to rebuild it without templates. I started by keeping all the bits and cynoing them roughly back together. From this I cut out new pieces. The top is made from a balsa block and bottom corners are made from triangular section. It was very simply rebuilt and knocked into shape with a rasor plane. Top tip use the original nose block as a template

Once again, I need to give a big shout out to Patricia @ Boomerang Jets USA! She came through with a missing instruction manual. Awesome service and extremely timely!

Answer to the jetronic brake question:

I use that one on the brakes with an Jet A1 gear and Intarco brakes. I fly on tarmac, so dont want to lock the wheels

I use the Valve in On/Off mode i.e. no buzzing, and activated by a single action switch (i.e. with a spring in it returing the swithc to 0)

I use 50/60 PSI brake pressure, then the weels dont lock up, If I use any more than that they lock up!

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Mick.

How do you make the jet tronic brake valve stop buzzing. I have it installed and it is buzzing all the time (open or closed) bearing in mind that brakes are working properly (locking in on position and unlocking in off position).

Thanks for your help.
Best regards.

Digitech,

thanks for your input. Will settings of valve be affected. Consequently what should be done?

not sure i never programmed them anyway
you just set it from PWM to Manual mode
if any programming needed , then you need to set it again i think.
i know that by pressing both buttons on the DA valves does a master reset.
