Default Skymaster Gear

Just received my ready to fly Skymaster F-15 today and wondered about something. I already have the tail feathers on, and just need to set up the radio. I notice that the main gear has quite a bit of tow in on the wheels. I have always put just a little on my planes, but this one has quite a bit. Robart gear and skymaster struts. What are you other guys doing? Thanks. Bob

Hi Bob

You should have around 2 or 3 degrees of toe-in. You need to adjust the struts in the retracts to have this setting. What you can do if you are having a difficult time getting the screw adjusted with the gear installed; just tighten the pinch screw till you can turn the struts in the retracts with some pressure then install them, adjust the toe in then carefully remove the retracts then fully tighten them. I usually adjust the toe-in by eye. I have someone hold the airplane sideways on a table covered with a thick blanket or foam, then I twist the main gear so compared with the wing root, or side of the fuselage they slightly point inward.

Im PM, ing you my phone # call me if you need help.

Bob,

While you are still setting up the jet, you may want to look at your elevator/elevon linkages on the servo side. I changed the link to DuBro or similar with locking mechanism. One of the link came off the servo horn just by accidient. I was setting up the control when my finger got caught in between the elevator and fuse end causing the link to come off. If you place pressure on the elevator, you will see that the SkyMaster linkage does have tendency to come off the servo horn. Securing it with fuel tubing is not enough. You will need proper locking mechanism.

Happy Holidays,

Great!!! The SM F15 will give you lots of fun with flight charateristic similar to large RCM trainer but more manueverable.
