I think a flying *ing *ould be cool. Something along the lines of the B2 bomber.
Note the double-u on my keyboard stopped functioning so I used an asterik in place of any double-u's

That has the potential for problems in terms of CG. I never really thought about it until I read Kamp's book, but long tails mean either a long tail pipe, or an engine far behind the CG, and a short nose means more ballast to compensate for the long tail, and/or the engine behind the CG.
Even if you don't mind a long tail pipe and you put the engine on the CG, so its "out of the equation", the ratio of the tail length to nose length has a direct correlation to the weight of the nose vs. the weight of the tail. Since the heavy engine in most prop planes is in the nose, it helps out in the balance department, but it does no good for us. Most of the other equipment in the jet is fairly light (fuel needs to be near the CG and can't be counted as ballast, except for an always-full header or UAT), that means lead in the nose - and the farther forward you carry it, the less you have to carry...

I would love to have a working Harrier with vertical take off and landing. Would pay about anything for one. Save lots of room at the flying site.
Anyone know where I can get one?

Bob your points are well taken, but long noses are yaw distablizing. If we just stretched the tail moments a bit; not much and shortend the nose moments a bit I think we could have better flying planes. I have 20 years plus designing prop planes some of which have been flown at the TOC by Steve Stricker, but no designs that I have done myself for a turbine plane. I did just today recieve a copy of Kerry Sterner's Facet 2300 serial number 1 on the plans. It has just what I was asking for; a slightly longer Tail moment compared to the nose moment. I will pick uop a copy of Kamps book to take into the points you have pointed out. Thanks for the information.

Hi Ron,
Have a look at the Boomerang and see if that gives you any sort of a starting point. Search the archives here and you will turn up some photos. It has a very long tail moment.
It's a pod and boom design but takes things to the next level in terms of being a turbine powered pattern ship rather than a sports model that is reasonably aerobatic.
Out of curiosity, any tried to lomcevak a BobCat?
Regards,
Garrett
