What is an A-10C? Is it similar to an A-10?

Oh you big tease ! Is this a "black project" or just commercially sensitive at this time ?
Try and post a little more info please, I'm a A-10 (warthog) fan.
If you do a google search for "A-10C" you get some wierd stuff.

The A-10C is the new A-10. Upgraded cockpit (All Glass), all hardpoints redesigned for Smart weapons, upgraded electical system and all new wiring. Coming soon, new engines and new wings. Yesterday's flight was the first "Safety of Flight" in a long line of test flights. The is the Precision Engagament Program designed and built by Lockheed Martin in Owego NY. I've been working th program for 4 years.

Life extension, the program is called "Hawgup". Right now the Center wings are going to be swapped out for new ones. The A-10C program will run til 2025. That's almost 50 years for a fighter to be in service, really incredible.

Chirs,
Very interesting. I was one of the first Air Force pilots to fly the A-10 which I first flew in September of 1976. We took a lot of crap back then about being ugly, bird strikes from the rear, couldn't survive in combat etc, etc. The Warthog eventually proved itself in the Gulf wars when they were down in the dirt blowing the sh** out of the Iraqi's while the "fast movers" were sky-puking from 15,000' or hauling their stuff back home because they couldn't see anything and were too thin skinned to get down where the action was. Wish I could have been part of that.

Ironically, the only complaint we had back then was that we wanted more thrust....not because we needed to go faster but so we could maintain G and airspeed while we were yanking and banking. The issue was made worse when they added the inboard slats which extended at high AOA to smooth out the airflow going into the engines. They smoothed out the airflow but added drag just when you didn't want it. Hopefully the new engines won't need the slats.

Here are a couple of old pics (taken from photographs) of my early Hog days. The one is on the ramp at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson. I'm the good looking young guy on the right. The second is me flying with a Royal Netherlands F-5 during an Air Show in Holland in 1977.

Craig,
nice to meet a Hawg driver. Well the A-10C will be getting new engines with more thrust so you can yank and bank all day without decaying your airspeed.

Here's a picture of me and the Lightening II targerting pod, we are also using Sniper XR. This pod is simply mind blowing.....

I'm also working on removing the LOX system and installing OBOGS, no more Liquid O2. This means the pilot has unlimited Oxygen, one less thing for the Driver to worry about. We have a whole laundry list of upgrades coming for the A-10C, stay tuned!

Stig:

That's the Lassek A-10 no? I have the same thing minus pods but with foam wing in a crate waiting for me to build it. Will you be cutting your own formers or getting them from Dean? Good to see another one out there.

Did you see the cover of the Aviation Week photo issue? 4 hawgs in trail above the clouds. Nice.

Hi JohnG.

I have made arrangement with Dean, that I can pick up the missing parts at Florida Jets 2005.

Since you're in Florida, you will probably be at Florida Jets this year. Maybe we can get together and talk jets. I will be at the Great Northern Models tent. Hope to meet you.

So far my daughter, Christine, is having fun with the A-10. She wants to go for a ride when I finish it.[8D]

Hey Stig:

I don't know if I'll make it down to FJ or not this year. Maybe hanging with you & Dean would make it a go, but the only thing I might have to fly would be DF - so I wouldn't register or anything.

Dean, PM'd you about the formers, etc.
