Default JMP Starfire

I just pickedup up a JMP Starfire. Reading the directions they show fixed wings glassed in place. I know that the yellow aircraft website shows an option for plug in wings on their starfire. Anybody know if the JMP Starfire can be modified to have plug in wings? I think they are the same plane but I just want to be sure.

are you planning on flying it as a df or turbine? i know yellow has provided thicker material for the formers throughout the kit. if you can still go with thicker material at the main formers, i would think you could do a removeable wing. i would be a bit hesitant if you plan on going turbine with the higher speed and wing loading.

I don't know of anyone that built the JMP version with plug in wings. Having built a couple of them myself, I would build it one piece, as designed. I have one of Tom's last Starfire IIb kits that I will build one piece, someday.

Or you could sell it and get a Yellow Aircraft one. I'll raise Shok's bid ten bucks and take it off your hands.

If someone would give me a good answer I will sell it for $10. Just kidding. Yellow's website lists
Plug in Wing Spar System (2 pairs required)........................................A 2001LW

Maybe I should get a copy of yellow's plans and see how they do it. Then see if the JMP structure will support the plug in wing spar. I have a dynamax and a os 91 df that will eventually go in the plane.

The JMP Starfire had 1/8" ply main fuselage formers that extend into the wings and become the wing spars. The Yellow kit has been upgraded with thicker main formers, so that the plug in wing fittings can be bolted to them. I'm guessing that the foam wings on the YA kit are also redesigned somewhat to accept the aluminum spars. The JMP fuselage has some grooves at the wing root to allow for applying some glass cloth at the wing / fuse joint.

If I were building the JMP kit, I would also determine if it is a Starfire IIa or a IIb kit. The IIb version has larger flaps. You could probably get a hold of a set of IIb plans and modify a IIa to have the larger flaps.

Good luck.

Let's see.......the last bid was $70...........................I'll go $100. I need another one to go with the 2 I have in my shop now.

I have a NIB wing spar kit that I would like to sell. I'll take 50% of the new price shipped to you if interested. I bought it for my F4 EDF conversion and I have decided to go with a one piece arrangement.
Thanks,
Bob

I might be interested in the spar kit. What price are you looking for and can you post a picture. I'm still trying to picture how they work. Sounds like the fuse formers would just be a matter of recutting with a thicker material or laminating two pieces together. If anyone has any insight into the modifications that the wing might need to accept the spars......

There are two c shaped brackets that bolt to each wood former and then there is an aluminum spar that glues into the wing. You slide the spar into the bracket and secure with a cap head screw from underneath. Look on the yellow website.
