Default Yearly checkup/ Off topic

To all of you that fail to get a yearly checkup from the DR. GET ONE! I just found out today after spending 2 weeks going though another battery of tests that I have hypothyroidism. This now explains the nagging health problems that I have been having for the last few months that have gotten worse in the last 4 weeks. I now have every classic symptom of this illness and; I went undiagnosed for many years my family believes now after seeing the symptoms in print. I first got very ill last year at FL Jets and have been seeing my doctor for all kinds of problems that had no explanations but now can be tracked back to the hypothyroidism. A blood test that I took last week for my yearly physical was combined with test for many other things and my T4 hormone levels came back high and showed my illness beyond a shadow of a doubt. So none of us like going to the DR but I will not miss a yearly visit from now on, and neither should any of you.

Ron, you gonna be OK? Don't want one of my original 30+ year flying buddies to go breasts up now.

Ron

Once you get stabilised on you tablets, you will feel like an new man.

I found that I was hypo when I was about 35 - couldn't understand my weight gain (put it down to having recently given up smoking) and all the other symptons. I was in a real mess but within months on going on treatment I'd lost a lot of weight and felt great again!!

I'm glad you found your problems, it can be very hard to deal with at times. My wife came down with just the opposite, hyper-thyroidism. She lost 20 to 30 lbs in a about 2 months. And this was on top of being pregnant. Thankfully someone above was watching and helping, becasue everything was ok in the end, for my wife and our child. It can sometimes take the docs a while to find the right level of meds to correct the problems, stick with it, you'll be feeling well soon.

Wishing a speedy recovery,

Neo

Hi Ron, I haven't seen you guys for quite sometime now. I've been busy putting together the 16 for Eric 90% done. I might stop by this weekend at the store to pick up some parts for Eric's plane. Anyway I hope that everything will be fine for you soon. Flying season is around the corner. Me too I got my checkup not too long ago and everything is fine. But my worrries is about the dust, fumes and other stuff I use might catch up with later.

See you soon,

Eddie Lozano

Mark, The doc says I'll feel like a new man once the drugs kick in. He says it take's month or so to stablize the levels I need to take. If I can just go flying I'll be ok. See all of you soon and thanks for the kind words.

Ron -

You're absolutely correct with regard to the need for routine checkups and I'm happy to hear that your're on the road to recovery.

It's amazing how we conscientiously take our "disposable" automobiles in for routine Oil Changes every 3,000 miles, Rotate the Tires every 7,500 miles and perform the requisite engine tuneups for something that is depreciating drastically every year we own it. However, we fail miserably in taking the necessary steps to ensure that our one and only body, will last a normal life time. The old addage of "Pay Me Now" or "Pay Me Later", is definitely true when it comes to our health and the payback later is always more costly. It's equally important for us to share this philosphy with our spouses to ensure that they also get a rountine checkup that includes those concerns that are specific to the female anatomy.

My wife & I celebrated our 34th Wedding Anniversary today and her card to me said that she's "looking forward to another 34 years," which might sound hard to believe to some. Needless to say, that says alot, but it also says that we need to do what we need to do to ensure another 34 years.

I sincerely hope that we all take the appropriate steps to ensure that we're able to fly for years to come in order to enjoy this fabulous hobby and all of the comradery that it offers.
