I hope the mods dont mind....this is not "Jet Related"
Some may have noticed Sean Reitmeyer (aka seanreit) has been vacant from RCU as of late.
On August 6th, Seans Brother, Ryan was involved in a very serious boating accident. His condition, critical and another passenger missing. We all tend to get a bit complacent with our daily lives and the things we do. I thought perhaps this might be a good time remind everyone how quickly things can go wrong and how important it is to keep safety first and formost in our minds. Please be safe out there, even our hobby can be dangeous!
Our prayers are with Ryan...
A website for Ryan has been setup [link=http://prayers.ryaninaustin.com/Default.aspx?tabid=128]HERE[/link] if you would like to share your support for the family....

Hey guys, it's about 1:30 AM in Texas. I just got back from the hospital and will be back there in a few hours. I need some sleep. I saw this thread earlier in the day, but just didn't really have the time to say what it means. I mean, I know Todd put this up, he's a close friend, but just to have you guys out there simply thinking some hope in this direction, this is the first time I've been associated with a massive trauma before. I would have never thought that so many people sending love and hope one way or another would make a difference. I'm so black and white, just would have never believed it.
Going through this has changed my mind. It helps more than a little. My prayers are still with Bill Kinney, every time I think about what his family is going through, or the woman next door to my brother or the 25 year old girl down in Room 8 that fell of a motorcycle with no helmet. ICU is not where people go for bandaids, it's the worst of the worst, the people that will die without the care they receive. Anything is better than nothing, and this type of thing will shake you to your core.
Ryan's friends have been sending in the "stories" that my family and I would not otherwise hear. Boy, if he comes out of this on the other side, is he gonna be embarrassed
Thanks again y'all. We are getting the message down here.

I to was a black or white guy until my wife Jan fell and was paralyzed on her right side in May. I believe that the guy upstairs is who let her get better because the doctors told us there was nothing they could do for her. 3 months now and she can drive, write her name, and do all kinds of other things we never hoped she could do then. May God send his blessings down to your family and the missing boaters family as well.

I don't know you Sean, but I wish you the best. I hope your brother pulls through.
You really have to appreciate every day that you get. It's so hard to remember that sometimes when the pressures of life add up.
A friend and neighbor said two weeks ago "tell your family that you love them as often as you can." I think he would also add to that, never part angry.
Good luck and best wishes for your brother.

Best wishes and prayers from VA too my friend. You guys have said it all too well in the thread, life is fragile & should never be taken for granted."Live each day for you never know what tomorrow will bring" That is my Signature line and something I try to live my life by each & every day.I have seen a fair amount of trauma & loss in my life over the years. The worse was when my 15 yo nephew lost his life tragically in 94 when he decided to "be cool" and play with fireworks in my uncles garage.Well long story short he didnt know the grave danger he was about to face as my uncle raced cars and had a 50 gallon drum of racing fuel in the garage at the time.I have lost 2 very close friends to automobile crashes in the last 5 years and just late last night I got bad news too. They decided to pull the respirator plug on my grandmother .So I'm off to Baton Rouge LA with my mom tomorrow morning for her funeral monday.
Again Sean wish your famliy the best & many prayers .May the man upstairs see the good life your brother has left and let him pull thru this trauma

Sean,
Im really sorry about Ryan. I read about it last night and felt really sad, as if he was my family. I visited his website and noticed that he is a very popular and fun loving guy.
He will make it Sean, he just needs time.
My prayers to you and your family.
Sincerely,
David

Hi Sean
Sorry to hear of your brothers serious condition. I think that everyone who reads this thread can relate to it somehow in their own lives. Here I sit 10 000 miles away in South Africa hoping that someone I can't say I know is going to be OK. This forum will always remain a wonderful place!
Thanks to Todd for posting it. It helps us to focus on the things closest to us from time to time which we normally take for granted.
Good luck to you, your brother and the family and the others involved in the unfortunate accident, we are thinking of you guys and will look out for the good news later.

Hi Sean!
I don´t know you in person, but you helped me out with some webspace - without knowing me. I don´t pray that often, but today I read this and I sent a pray for your brother. And all the other peaple who are in deep need for. It´s that much people who are in deep need of our all help - just don´t be to sure about everything in your live, the next second is able to change everything - as it happened to my farther some time ago - just some minutes and he had gone - in my arms. Without a sign of it any further.
I´m with you and your brother - and your family. Many miles away - but still there.
Take care of yourself
Thomas

Hi Sean, I think we all forget that all these names on the forums are real people with real families. We are all thinking of Ryan & his buddy who is missing, and you of course - hang in there! John.

Sean,
I just want too say, my thought's of well wishing are with Ryan, you & your family. I know nothing of you other than a brief phone conversation we had, and that you are one opinionated individual at times.
Ryan look's too be a strong will person, and with a tight knit family such as your's that he has for support.... he hopefully will pull through this life changing tragedy in flying colors.
Ryan, best wishes to a speedy recovery...and under the horrible circumstances, consider yourself fortunate in having such a loving family & friends...not everyone can claim that !!! I would also like too extend my condolence to the family of the young lady...may the Lord place his healing hand upon you so that your pain will be eased.
Best regards
Ronnie

Hey guys, thanks again, I sent an email update out for yesterday just a little while ago. It should be posted on the website sometime today. The only change of note is that his eye lid muscles involuntarily blinked today, the lids did not come up off the eye when it happened, but there was a little bit of left eye movement.
He remains heavily sedated for a couple more days.
Thanks again, we're hearing from everyone and it helps so much, as many of you have pointed out, having support structure in a situation like this means more than can be described.
Dad and I were here till after 1am last night just talking about Ryan and the future whatever that may hold. When it's family, there just are no limits to what you'll do for one another.
Take care of those you care about,
Sean

I emailed those I could think of. For those that have asked me over the past two years, and I didn't get you included in the email I sent out:
An update on Ryan that ran in our local paper today. There are a couple of inaccuracies, but overall, a good representation of where he is at today. Ryan is both seizure and medication free, and is an exceptionally good driver!

Thanks again to all who have been so supportive over the last couple of years!

Dear Sean,
Sorry to hear about what happened toyour brother Ryan. I get to know you through thru RCU. Great man who always want to support and help others. I know what you had to go through cause I know how it feels when you lose a brother.
Wish all the best of what life can offer

WOW Sean,
That is fantastic. I was just thinking about your brother the other day and was looking for the site that had originally been set up.
It looks like he's really amazed everyone! And, God bless your father.
Truly, the result of a families determination to overcome the expected prognosis.
Well done!
Paul
