Looks like we're starting a little scam thing for turbine engines, Although I dont know if the ad is legit or not, but it sure looks fake. They are small, expensive and there is always a buyer for them, good product{?} for scammers.

FYI, people should start using RCMarket.com for these high priced transactions. They are now using an escrow service which minimizes the risk to the buyer and seller.
I was informed about this new service a few days ago and will most likely link my webs to the new market soon. Also saw a news release from the AMA who is also endorsing it.

It may or may not be legit. If you are seriously interested, bid on it, do a USER QUERY on the guy, get his phone number, and call him. It could be the bargain of a lifetime, but I would be mighty careful bidding on a zero feedback three day auction out of australia...
Tom...escrow services always have been available on ebay. It's up to the buyer and seller to use them or not.
If I had a pair of P-80's to sell, the LAST place I would put them would be RCmarket.com. I'd put them on EBAY, first, and HERE, second. If I wanted to KEEP them, I'd put them on rcmarket.
In what news release did AMA endorse either an escrow service or a commercial website? THAT I would like to see...

If you can get the guys name and phone number email it to me and I will ring him and do a back ground check. I know the Australian JetCat importer and I am in Australia.

You cannot get his number unless you BID on it, or he gives it to you via email. Careful, though, as you cannot cancel your bid in the last 12 hours of the auction. I strongly suggest that anybody who is seriously interested take Adrian up on his kind offer.

Good question - I don't know. In all liklihood that would be seen as just another way for people to sneak their Ebay ads in here, so I think the answer will be no - but I will check up on it and report back here.
Meanwhile, I did record the link, and will forward it to you.
Thanx,

Thanks Gordon. I know this is a touchy situation. However you handle it will be OK with me. That was just a thought. That way I'll have the name of the guy in the back of my head in case another "too good to be true" deal comes along
Bob already sent me the # but thanks. ;>)

Other strange stuff...it's a PRIVATE auction. Why? There have been two bids cancelled so far. One was an administrative cancellation(used suspended), and one was "bid wrong amount". Also, it's a three day auction.
I'd be mighty careful.
Gordon, how do you know these are the same P80s that were listed here? What was the deal with those ones?

I'm only 99.9% sure its the same ones
The For Sale ads were from a user who was brand new on RCU. "Loosecannon" posted 2 P-80's for aution on Ebay, NIB, from Australia. I deleted the post and PM'd him to explain why. Later that day he posted the same ad again. I moved the thread to the "Bad thread holding forum" (A temp forum that acts as a two-step delete). In case his re-post happened because he was a new user that did not know how to read PM's - this time I used email to explain to him why the post was deleted again.
Now, it's possible that two different people from Australia posted Ebay ads for 2 P-80's at the same time... but an Ebay serach found only one such ad, not two.

That's a good enough reason!
I ran this auction by the Ebay Powersellers Private Forum, the Creme de la Scum of Ebay. At any rate, a group of experienced sellers who have seen all the scams.
While nobody could say for sure whether or not it was legit, nobody would risk bidding on it, either. Too many red flags.
It is entirely possible that it is a perfectly straight seller, but if things went sour, you would feel pretty foolish, having seen so many warning signs. And your dough would be long, long gone.
If a deal seems too good to be true, you really have to think hard.
And don't think that plain old SCAMMERS are not in our midst. Indonesia has made a big industry of online fraud, they they become more creative all the time. How about a fake auction for a vintage blender worth $3000? Cellphone, cameras, sure...people can understand scams for common items like that, but scammers are becoming more and more creative, and I would not be surprised in the slightest if someone tried to sell a nonexistent turbine engine. The scammers just browse ebay, see what sells for good money, steal a picture, and off they go.
Didn't someone get scammed right here for a turbine, out of Indonesia?

The only reason you would make an auction like this private is so noone will be able to send emails to the bidders and warn them. I asked him why the private auction, no answer.
He is also selling a pricey Honda turbo charger.
Makes you go hmmmmm
See ya....

Here's the news release from the AMA (10-14-02) regarding a partnership with RCMarket classifieds. What do you think? It looks like it will have potential, especially the idea that you can post once and have it populate 23 other partner sites.

I was NOT thinking of bidding, even if I could afford it! There's no way in H%&* I would send that much money to Australia on this seller. Just thought that maybe whoever was bidding on this thing should be very cautious, and might find this thread.
Just saw the Vortec s-charger this guy has{?} too.....

BTW, I would love to see the financial particulars worked out between AMA and RCbid, RCauction, RCstuffforsale....or whatever it's called.

I don't know why they bothered, though. I guess some webshark convinced them the would make some money somehow...
