RE: Avonds F-16 build
Started on the cockpit ABS plastic stuff this week. The ABS plastic deck and seat I got with the kit looked pretty good but upon further work on the HUD there are no visible lines to reference to cut them out. I emailed PA and he offered to send me another. This is no small deal in my opinion as replacement and shipping is not cheap! There have been a couple of things that I needed for the kit that he has supplied me for no cost! Nice.
Thanks Philip for the great customer service!

Am jumping around some and going back and finishing some. Plans call for using small countersink screws for the gear door hinges. Not sure if I like that Idea but went ahead and installed them. Hope they dont do more damage than good down the road[:@] The Nose gear hinges are spot glued at this time to be removed later when installing the duct work.

Plans call for a lite coat of epoxy thinned with alcohol to seal the bulkheads. I used spray poly on my F-15 and it seemed to work well so will go with that. I put all the bulkheads on a board with drywall screw and will spray everything with a couple of coats. On my Eagle I painted the inside of the fuse white white Omni and clear coated over that, so am probably going over board. Never had fuel inside the fuse of my Eagle but you never know.

Thanks for putting up the photos and doing the building thread . I'm still waiting to receive mine from Philip, it's stalled out in customs and paper work right now in Seattle . Looking forward to getting started on it . Keep the photos coming .

A few pics of mine at early stages, till rotation.
The best kit of this model there is, no doubt..
And yes, my friend milling the gear, is a very good friend.
Perhaps the only true scale F-16 gear on a model present. Hudraulic shock absorbers (amazing effect), and full twist & turn on retraction. All details where copyed from a F-16 Falcon in Bodø-Norway, millimeters accuracy from the fullscale version.
The wizards name is Trond Hoset, catch him at [email protected]
I fly it much to seldom, because it is very pressous to me.. Shame on me.. (!) ?
BUT, I`ll make another one with less hours on it...
In the meantime, I`ll try to get some other stuff in the air...
Merry Cristmas to you all!

Very nice model Gudmund! Do you usually fly with the sidewinders on? It looks like you scratch built your cockpit....is this right?

Craig.

No problems at all.
But once PA have warned about this, you`re on your own if you do so.
Four sidewinders and droptanks are no problem on mine, even at absolute max velocity.
No reinforment on the wings, just a lyer of carbon on the main former in the fuselage.
Now get back tho the building.

Gudmond,
What weight glass cloth did you use to glass the wings? I think that makes a big difference in the ridgidity of the wing. The glass cloth he recommends on the F-15 (I think it was 40gm per sq Meter) works out to be about 2.36 oz per sq yard and alot of people glass with .6 oz per sq yd.

25gr / m2 glass, Bid-woven. If you follow the manual, this as strong as h....
Remember not to sand the clotc. but the epoxy only.
You can`t destroy the wings in the air.
The weakest point would be the rudder/stab, but I once flew mine in a 300 m vertical dive at full thrust.
Not a sign of flutter, just rock strong rigidity.
I also had a terrible hard pull-up from a sililar dive...
The controls had frozen in a 60deg bank-vertical dive, when the controls suddenly came back. Two meters above the tarmaq I managed to save it, as the controls came back..
I guess the stress here was the worst I`ve seen performed by a jet -model... Incredible. It was filmed, as this was a jet-meeting.
I had 11 kg of thrust in mine at the time.

After turning the shop upside down looking for the main bulkhead former it was apparent---there wasnt one!!!! Sometimes things like this happen when you get a kit second hand. But---a silver lining! The replacement is better than the original as it incorporates the things necessary to install the scale landing gear. PA sent me the replacement along with the fiberglass and plywood beef up plates so I'm back to building. Put a coat of resin on the parts tonight so will be ready for this weekends project.

Started the install of the front intake liner and lower fuse section. The front liner took considerable sanding a little at a time to get to the 42MM length extending out the front. This mates a shelf on the forward end of the liner to the lower fuse area to make a nice lip for the intake. sanding the edge of the lower fuse intake a little at a time as there is a build up of resin there as well, Sanding the liner and lower fuse, trial fitting, sanding, fitting, sanding, fitting. did I mention there is a a lot of sanding[:'(]

put together the nose gear bulkhead former and servo tray. Will be interesting to see how accessible the servo is once installed[:@]

Accessibility is no problem through the hatch. Remember to drill the small hole in the bottom of the fuse, for access to the servo-arm.
Install this bulkhead a few millimeter more towards the front as the plan shows. If you use the "standard-gear" from PA space will be very limited between the retracted wheels and the door rams.
