PST and AMT engine performance.
David,
Consider me there as soon as my Boomerang is done. Given the scheme I have in mind, that will give your hand plenty of time to heal. How badly did you burn your hand?
I'll be removing the festo fitting from the top of my fuel can as a safety precaution.

PST- Florida Jets
Bob- just to quickly answer your question, re- PST reps attending FJ 2003.
I myself and the TJT crew will definetly be there with a good chance of the the PST Thai factory boys making the event as well... We will have flying, ground run demos and engines for sale.
I will be posting some cool pics of the numerous PST J600 powered models from the 'Mangalore' 02 (Australia) jet meet in the next few days...
Cheers-

That is great! I will be there with my VISA card in hand... (and my 'Roo to fly too!) Any chance the AMA approval of the J600 might be done by then - I thought it was close at hand?

PST/AMA
Bob, I was asking the the PST boys at 'Mangalore' just that question re- AMA.
We are hopeful that approval should be complete very soon well before Christmas...
Heres an interesting pic. from 'Mangalore' jet meet. This scratch built Sepcat Jaguar tipped the scales at 24 lb's and flew very well with PST J600 power...
take off roll was long but she flew fine!

PST F86
This was my favorite, a Trim F86 with PST J600 power. This airframe/engine combo owned by Peter from PST Thailand is absolutely perfect, the little F86 flew very scale like and was one of two PST powered Trim 86's at Mangalore 02...

I'm submitting the J600 application to the AMA tonight. Joe A has the test engine and should have completed the AMA demonstration by now. Once the data is submitted and engineering report is reviewed by the safety committee, its just a matter of time. I'd guess we are between 2 and 3 weeks out.
Thanks,

Trim F86
Kevin, the F-86 is covered with Presto with airbrushed dragon... It is the nicest looking/flying Trim F86 I have seen.... it is powered by a PST J600 with 12 lb thrust. see- http://www.pstjets.com for turbine specs/info.
I have a bunch of great Trim F86 pics. of this and many more awesome models performing at 'Mangalore' 02 in Australia last weekend. I will post a new thread in a couple of days with pics. and video links of some of the highlights. Including video of David Laws awesome TJT3000 powered Mig 29.

MIG 29
This is David Laws MIG 29 from a much modified Jim Fox kit, she performs very well with a single TJT3000 Eagle.... I have some amazing video footage of this model performing, the roaring sound of the MIGs ducted bypass set-up is awesome...

which metal?
Kevin, I have used both Flite Metal and Presto... Presto is lighter, but not enough to be of a concern.
Flite Metal is my choice from now on as it looks more realistic, also I find it less likely to show any surface imperfections.
All the Presto finishes I have seen seem to have a slight orange peel texture to them no matter how much surface prep is done. Kevin go with the Flite Metal for the ultimate metal look...

Garrett, Woketman,
I burned my hand when a seal blew out on a JPX cpoupling and we had a fireball when the vapour was sucked into the engine which had just started. The pipe was, and remained, firmly in the coupling but it seems that the O ring failed . Rick Burnato and Chris Mounkley were also slightly burned but are both OK now. However, we had done everthing right and one fire extinguisher tackled the model whilst another tackled me as apparently my hair and clothing were alight.
Kumpol from PST bravely put his hand into the model and closed the fuel valve saving a potentially disastrous situationof a possible explosion. The guys at Mangalore got my burnt hands into ice cold water and reduced the effects, even though the burns turned nasty last week, they are now well on the mend.
Thanks again to all involved in that incident at Mangalore and to Peter Agne and his team for organising a first class event.
I also extend my grateful thanks to the two wives (both nurses) who applied sterile dressings.
Ironically the valve which failed is not the one I use for refuelling and the valve and pipe had both been checked under a magnifying glass during a check over, problem is you cant see down into the O rings. Solution may be to change the connectors regularly and pressure check before the first start of the day, well clear of any ignition source.
A very close encounter.

flame thrower
David,
I read your post with memories of my own jpx fireball running thru my head. It was a few years back, we just fired up my 240 powered starjet when the fuel feed line blew off at the engine connector, which is as you know under the wing outside the jet fuse. It just so happened that day we had a third guy helping with hands on the extinguisher, most times it was just two of us so when the FLAME THROWER started he was on it very quickly.I clicked the switch on the tx to shut the tank valve down and was blown back with the others, all of us lost a little hair on our legs but otherwise came out ok. We laugh about it now but it scared the crap out of me at the time!! Long live the kero motors!!!!

Hi David,
That is really quite frightening. Sounds like you could have been seriously hurt had it not been for the quick actions of Rick and Chris.
Regards,
Garrett

Safety
David - glad to hear your on the mend... Having witnessed your fire, it still amazes me how quickly things can go wrong, and how important it is to have help close by during start up and also how vigilant we all must remain with the operation and maintenance of our turbine models.
David, heres a pic of your Avonds F15 on finals at Mangalore 02 showing off how well U.S. military Grey camo paint works...

Thanks Marty,
Great to see you at Mangalore and to witness the excellent operation of both PST and TJT engines. You have top quality products here !
Totally agree on preparedness, just cant let our guard down.
That air superiority gray works just too well sometimes !
Maybe see you at FJ in Feb.

David

Festo's and bubbles
Hi Garrett,
The Festos we all love to use so much have a few limitations. I am referring to the "quick fit" push on type. They are NOT designed for negative pressure and can be a source of fine airbubbles entering your system. They are perfectly OK for the pressure side. My favourite debugging tool for airleaks INTO fuel lines is to blow compressed air onto all joints and observe for air appearing in the lines. The centred clunk thing does help most of the time, it was the only way I could ever get a OS pulsejet to keep going many years(20!) ago when doing rolls etc. Woketman is right about the clunk filters being able to suck fuel even when only partially submerged in fuel. This is what convinced me that that is all that I need.
Tom, thanks for the kind comment. Joey has had good success with the BMT80+ he has. The one in the f16 is many years vintage but has recently had our new custom compressor fitted. It now pushes 30lbs....
David, sorry to hear about the propane burns, could have been serious. I just hate propane in an airplane, it scares me. It takes a courageous fireman to go near a fire with pressurised propane at the centre of it.
Cheers
Andre
