What's a good jet for a newbie? Something easier to fly and cheaper.

If it's a turbine powered aircraft you want, go with the Super Reaper, Facet 1200 or the AV8R. Do searches on these aircraft to find more info. I have 35 flights on my MW54 powered Super Reaper . Check my gallery for a pic.

If you are on a budget and want to get your feet wet, get a HotBodies A-7 corsair.

I suggest you look into the TGA jets, www.tgajets.com

They have some great Holiday specials on their F-15 and Mig-29
kits which are some of the best first jets available.
Great prices also.

I agree, stay away from those others.....

Sandman, I hate to ask, but do you have some relationship with TGA? You plug them an awful lot, in a very rep-like manner.

Whatever you do please stay away from BVM products.
I dont think anyone ever said NOT to get a BVM jet, just that it isnt the only way to have success, as some of the die hard BVM guys would lead beginners to believe. Thats plain wrong, as there are many good jets in the market (and probably many bad ones) but to say ANY brand (not just BVM) is the "only way to have success" is'nt true. That goes the same with engines, servos, etc.

I will say this, I disagree with the above quote, and I do agree with ajcoholic.

SO, please, lets help the future jet flyer get back on track with his post instead of bickering.

Thanks guys.

Default Great response !!!!

Very Well said Ajcoholic, BVM products are not the only succesfull manufactures out there, dont get me wrong they're great but believe me, Use me as an example I fly everything BUT BVM products by choice nothing else.

If I were you I would consider the new Jet from Pat M. its only like $ 300.00 with everything all you need is a used good running turbine and there ya go, i've seen the jet fly for the first time @ the FIJR and it was perfect, even on deadstick.

Guys

Look at the question above, and provide information that could help Sal_11 make a good decision. It is a straight and forward question that requires a straight and forward answer. Let us refrain from manufacturer bashing as much as we can.

Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Easytiger

I got started in the Jet stuff (D/F) with the TGA F-15 Ultra Eagle.
It ended up being the perfect first jet for me. I used it to transition from props to jets. It did just that.
Contrary to some of the posts that seem to tell the first timers, that to be successful, you must buy the expensive stuff, I believe that you do not need to spend a lot of money to be successful. More than money, you need knowledge and that knowledge can actually save you money.
TGA products allowed me to get into jets and be successful at a pace I was comfortable with. It also allowed me to do it for lot less cash than I would of spent, listening to some on the jet lists.
I believe that we need as many new jet pilots in our hobby as we can get and sometimes they can not afford to buy expensive.
Once they are successful however, they can always save up their hard earned dollars and buy whatever they want. By that time they should be knowledgeable enough to make educated decisions etc.
This is all just my humble opinion...

Default First Jet

Sal_11,

PCM Models has the AV8R which is designed to be a first jet, be it DF or turbine. It meets all the requirements that you mention. Designed to be an inexpensive, quick building easy to fly model for turbine power. You can find reviews of AV8R in RCReport and Model Airplane News. Or you can check out our site or e-mail me direct at [email protected].

Thanks all.

Got a little stick time on pats AV8R at the FIJR meet early this month, I would have to agree....The AV8R is a fantastic flying entry level sport jet that will not drain your back account to build one. Highly recommend one!
BTW....Owned a TGA F-15 as well and Yes, they are great flying planes but after flying the AV8R I would have to say it is by far a better choice if you intend to go turbine.

Default Question for PAT

If a guy had a byron fan/pipe and 80-91 size engine, would you say the PCM AV8R would fly with that powerplant if you made a pod ala byroblaster enforcer?

If so, then you could switch to turbine if and when you so choose.

AJC,

I have no experience with that combo but suspect that the model could be flown successfully on as little as 7-9 pounds
of thrust.
