Starfire or Interceptor

The interceptor's airfoil has a lot in common with the Starfire's...
Then again, the Starfire's airfoil shares those characteristics with most high-performance sport jets.

Touche!
You're right! I do know the difference, but somehow I was reading 'wing' rather than "airfoil". Sorry, my bad.
Anyway, those airfoils have less in common than those planforms do. Thanks, you can bet I'll be more careful with the vocabulary words next time :-)

The airfoils on the Interceptor and the Starfire are the same. That includes the wing and stab. The airfoils were given to me from Tom Cook of JMP. Some of the early interceptors didn't have an accurate wing airfoil and may be the cause of some of the pitch changes mentioned.
Incorrect stab incidence would be the cause of the pitch change with the correct airfoil.
How do I know this? I designed the interceptor.

Very interesting info on airfoils! One and the same, eh? That Tom Cook sure gets around, don't he? Boy, the things you learn in here :-)
I am told, however, that the airfoils on the JMP Starfire and the airfoils on the Y/A Starfire are slightly different.
Nice job, Martin, on the Interceptor.

Guys,
When he designed the Banshe/Interceptor,the starfire II and the Banshe/Interceptor had the same airfoils and still do as Marty stated.
The airfoil on the Starfire IIC (read composite flying surfaces) are different. How do I know? I have built and/or flown all of them and still have a IIC turbine powered that first flew with a GoldenWest FD-3/67 in Oct 1997 and since has had several P-80's and P-102's installed.
They all 3 fly great but the Starfire has the best manners when the flaps are deployed. The starfire IIC has about 80 sq inches more wing and can be distinguished by the straight trailing edge. Tom did not sell the rights to the IIC to Yellow. All 3 A/C share the same fuselage.
My A/C weighs 22lbs wet.My Starfire II fan birds weighed appx 12-13 lbs and the fan IIC which was an early prototype weighed 16.5. The later IIC could be built (fan) to about 14.5 as the layups became lighter.
We flew the Starfire IICT that I still have (Bicentennial paint scheme)here in Denver at 18.5lbs wet with a FD-3/67 that had 8.25lbs of thrust at sealevel. Takeoff with 15 deg of flaps was about 450'. With the P-80 or P-120 (Derated to 17lbs sealevel ) and no flaps ,22lbs wet, takes about 250-300 feet.
Either A/C, Interceptor or Starfire, would be a good choice.

Ghost Rider,
Oh yes, I already agree. When I was at Discount Hobby Warehouse as a full-time manager, Tom and I spoke often as I ordered lots of stuff from him for customers. That guy is never too busy to educate the uninformed, or just to talk shop. I was always impressed with his candor, too. He wasn't afraid to tell it like it was, even if it meant losing a sale. He doesn't get as much press as some of the others (mainly because he doesn't toot his own horn too much), but I've always regarded him as one of the pioneers in the Jet hobby.
I'm really glad he sold us that Starfire, too!
Mr-Nat,
Your reputation preceeds you. Your beautiful F-4 Centennial Starfire was the first one I ever saw, the first turbine-powered sport-jet I ever saw on video and the plane that made me first look into the Starfire.

Ghost_Rider,
How did you make the wings removable? I just got my Interceptor pre-fab last week and talked with TGA about removeable wings. They said it's much harder in the Interceptor than say the F15. So I was opting not to make the wings removeable.
I'm not seeing anything in this thread about how you did it?
Thanks,
Tom

I was unable to post pictures yesterday because of RCU system problems. I will post them tonight.
Actually I used the removable wing kit from yellow F-18 single.
Pictures will follow when I get home this p.m.

I just got my retracts. I got the wheels from a friend. Where do I get the axles to fit on the wire that comes with the retracts.
Thanks,
Craig
