RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
To anyone looking for a convenient and out of sight place to route the standard antenna wire, I glued a 27" length of nylon tube into the front section of one wing. There is an oval shaped hole in the ribs close to the leading edge that runs all the way down the wing. Its pretty easy to thread the tube into this area and secure the end to the inside of the root rib with a small piece of light ply leaving a short stub to protrude into the fuse when the wing is attached. The 27" length of tube is more than enough with the receiver just behind the nose gear mount.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Hello all............... I took the Bobcat to the field today and had my friend 3DFlip fly her so that I could get some video. I was very pleased with the flight and the performance of the plane. The landings were interesting as she tended to bounce even though she was going quite slow. The combination of the OS 55AX and the 11 x 8 two blade prop is good. 3DFlip did notice the same thing I did on my maiden which is the elevator sometimes takes a while to 'bite' when pulling out of a dive.... The main gear has bent back a bit so I think I will change the wire for a thicker gauge........ Thanks to 3DFlip for showing us what the bobcat can do........ Sorry I never got the takeoff in the film..

Bigplumbs.
Flys really good on that 55ax /prop combo. Mine has the same tendancy to bounce on landings
Except when I hold ot off a bit longer. Then it just touches the mains the nose follows and it stays down. Mind you the booms nearly touch.

Thanks for sharing. The landings will give me something to watch for..I think like gen3v8 says, it is a matter of holding the nosegear off as long as possible... That engine really unwinds coming downhill! It looks like a great combo...

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
I've been tinkering with several other projects and haven't really begun any serious assembly of my Bobcat.
However, today I purchased a coupla sanding sponges and commenced stripping the paint off the fuselage. The yellow, blue and green just isn;t what I want on this airframe.
I drilled 3 bolt holes for the aluminum landing gear and installed that as well. I tapped the plate, 1/4-20 and the nylon bolts hold the gear on quite well. I trimmed the threads flush with the top of the engine mount plate so that when I install the 61 OS, everything will match up. I'll slightly countersink the rear 2 blind nuts as these will be under the landing gear.
I got the Hitec MG125 elevator servo mounted and figured out the wire run down through the boom. I had to drill up through from the bottom of the tail boom to route the servo extension to the stabilizer. I'm glad I stripped all the covering off as there are quite a few gaps and imperfections in the woodwork. Lightweight spackling made short work of these.
I'm using a standard Spectrum servo, (620) for the rudder(s). I mounted the single servo on the inside of the starboard tailboom. I plan on coupling the rudders with a carbon fiber pushrod made up from Central Hobbies components. I simply don't want 2 servos for the rudder function.
I picked up an old Royal, twin wire nose gear and plan on using this up front. It has a black plastic yoke that looks, "Soviet" so this will lend itself to the SU-27 scheme I'm envisioning. The only challenge I see is that the coils are directly under the bearing block and mounting it may be problematic.
I'm enjoying reading all the posts on this little airplane. As I said before, I'm working on several other models but haven't missed a single post on the Bobcat. I only hope that mine turns out nearly as nice as y'alls....

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
I have absolutely no experience flying jet type aircraft but with the main gear in the stock location it is approximately 5" behind the CG. I have to assume this would make it very difficult to hold the nose wheel off the ground once the mains touch down. It seems this would indeed give this plane a very good tendency to hop if the landing isn't perfect.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Is that an APC pusher prop or a standard prop? If it is an APC pusher I believe it should be bolted on with the letters/prop size facing the prop nut. Just like mounting a standard prop when your motor is in the nose. So if that is a pusher it looks likeit is on correctly. Other can correct me here if I wrong. The curved side or cambered side should be facing towards the nose and the flat side of the blades facing rearward.
If it is a standard prop it would need to be turned around. However, freom a safety issue I personally would not do that and spend the money and get the pusher prop.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
dragraces,
Your prop is on correctly. You'll want to keep an eye on the fuel lines where they exit the fuse as the fiberglass edge could chew through them pretty quickly. A rubber grommet works well for this.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
dragraces It looks like you may have it on backwards...the curved surface of the prop should be towards the front on the aircraft, and the flat side towards the rear.

Hey guys,
For those who installed a turbine on the Bobcat, can you please post some pics of the inner part of the fuse showing the electronics \ fuel tank mounting and such ? it would really help out to those (like me) who are considering a turbine conversion..
thanks.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Wayne22,
Dragraces has the prop on correctly. If you look at the third picture that is head on you can see it is correct. All props are basically an airfoil that resembles a wing, the leading edge is thicker than the trailing edge. On an APC this is very easy to see as the trailing edge is like a Ginsu knife.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Check this post out from extreme speed prop planes. Should be #146 on the page. "the curved side of the blade with the lettering/markings faces foward into the direction of flight". I looked at my 10 x 6 APC pusher and lettering is on the flat side of the blade. I don't have any other pusher props so I can't tell with other brands. So looking at your pictures it looks to me it is on correctly.
Here is the link.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Looking at it closely the letters face the rear but ! the flat side is facing foward in direction of flight according 2 the other post the curved side needs 2 be facing the direction of flight so that would mean mine is on backwards !
Man now im really confused !!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Don't be confused about the lettering..I have seen APC pusher props with lettering on the front, and others with lettering on the back! Don't use the lettering as a reference !!!!
The important thing is that the flat part of the blade faces the rear of the plane and the curved airfoil side faces the front of the plane.
EDIT: I think I see where some of the confusion is coming in..I have referring to the broad surface of the prop blade, not the leading edge (blunt) or trailing edge (sharp)
The last series of photos, the prop is on backwards. Hope this helps a bit....
