Hey Buck,
Could you possibly "wonder" over to the USS Midway and shoot a couple hundred pics of the A-7 that they have there?

I have been trying to get over to SAN to do it myself but "things" just happen to be getting in the way of progress!

Hi Joe!
Ralle from www.tailormadedecals.com has a set of decals for the Airworld Cougar. We worked together on getting all the Cougar decals for my model. All stencils that I could find on my collection of pictures.
You might be interested in Steve Ginter's very nice books about the Cougar:
www.mozeyoninn.com/Ginter/NAVAL/NAVAL.htm
I have all but the two-seater book. Very nice pictures. Another good book is the "in detail&scale" by Bert Kinzey. Hard to get, but very good.
Best regards,
David Buesken

Joe,
I'm planning to head down to San Diego this month, maybe even this weekend, to do the "Tourist" thing. I'll take pic's and send them along when I get back. I'll bet you didn't know I've been known to puff a cigar or two in my time?

Hi Joe.
I"ll try to get over there this weekend. It's a whole 2 mi. away. My fear is that most of those resto birds are painted over and nomenclature seemed unimportant to the restoration. I know that's the case with the F-18C on display.
I'll see what I can do for ya. It's the least I can do for a guy who traveled 3k mi. to CA Jets just to provide me with photos of the event
I'll let you know.
Buck your off the hizzy bro. Missed seeing you with your FAT 101 boyz at Miramar last weekend.

Seriously, I work less than a mile away...I can get some high res digital shots for you this week, if you'd like. I'd need to put them on a CD and mail to you. PM or Email me offline.

Barry,
Where you been brutha? Haven't heard hide nor hair of you lately. Actually since BITW 05. I figured that sweet F-18 goin' in wore you down.
Good to see a post from you.
If you do get pics for JB, lmk so I know whether I need to plan for doing it or not.
Tks,
Paul

Hey Joe - No worries, I'll try to get over there with camera in hand tomorrow or this weekend at latest.
Paul, I did get pretty bummed out by the loss of my F-18, followed shortly thereafter by a flameout and heavy damage to a new KingCat a couple months later. But I'm definitely still around and flying at Miramar as time allows. I've got a Reaction 54 that's RTF (will test fly this weekend) and a Boomer XL I bought in parallel w/ the Buckster that's due in a couple weeks, plus an SM F-5 and the repaired Kingkitty waiting to be finished.
Also pining away for Buck, ain't got nobody else here to play with.

Iffin you boyz ever want to get together at MCRF, just give me a shout, I'd be happy to join in on the fun.

OK Joe, got about 70 photos for you...but you are going to be dissapointed, unfortunately. The jet is very rough, the finish is worse, and there's no placards or nomenclature (other than BuNo)...even the stars/bars are painted over. Sad.
I spoke to the curator and it's a long story, but the museum is not allowed to work on, corrosion protect, refinish, or even WASH the Corps owned planes on display. Apparently the current Corps policy is that only licensed A&P's can work on these planes, active duty personnel can't be used, and there is no budget or resources allocated for display aircraft or museums.
I have burned a CD of the pics in high res and it'll be in the mail on Monday. In the meantime, here's a couple teaser pics for you...

Buck mentioned there was someone looking for pics of the VFMAT 101 Hornet in aggressor colors on display....I'll send those on CD as well if they let me know who/where to send them.
It's been cannibalized pretty thoroughly, but I got a lot of good nomenclature and stencil pics.

The "Corps" trying to save $$$$ rather than a piece of history. Make sure you include your return address "Cohibas" are here
If you can I'll take a few of the aggressor F/A 18 too

I included the Hornet pics as well...about 600 megs of photos for ya.
PS - The curator hinted that a change in policy might be in the works...I hope so. Hurts my heart to see these tough old warriors neglected and rotting away.
