Default Draco jet

Just bought a Draco jet of of rcu. No instruction manual, was there one for this jet or am I on my own? Any build threads or manuals online or any help appreciated. I searched the threads and found some info just wondering if there are other things I should do. Planing on using a ram 750.

Send CHUCKC a PM and he should be able to give you some general setup instructions. He flew one for a while. I had a Super Reaper with a 750 and it was probably too much for it. You'll have to come up with a large enough fuel tank for the Draco if you are going to use a 750. It drinks a lot. Shoot for something with at least 80oz for a 5 to 6 minute flight.

Good Luck!

The throws that are mentioned here, if you do a search are right on. I don't think I changed them at all. I did make sure I put the canard on a rotary switch and then mixed it in as slave to the elevons so that I could trim the canards in flight with the knob. The Draco seems to hunt ever slightly in pitch; didn't bother me at all though.

It will float right on by-it holds energy really well and has a ton of wing area. I believe the trick is to find that right nose-high attitude that bleeds off the speed and provides the right amount of sink. I never got there, but still have the plane. Ripped the retracts out, like 3 times trying to land it in grass. Don't get me wrong, it can be done, just not by me - I seem to have to flame out the engine, land too hot, whatever... I'll take what pictures I can get, but I've started stripping the airframe and am not sure of what use they'll be.

Oh yeah - you are "on your own".

Thanks, appreciate some pictures. I would like to see how you have the rudder servo mounted and a couple other things.

Trick to landing this plane (and the Reaper) is to make a hard turn onto final. Delta's lose energy in hard turns...that usually bleeds off enough speed to get it on the ground. First few flights it probably would be best to shut the turbine down....had a P-80 in my Reaper, and it would float forever. I remember landing one time, and the guy spotting for me was a Tornado pilot for the German Air Force...he saw how slow it was going, and kept telling me "Power...Power...more Power", but it was just about right.

Had a ball with the plane...planning on building another one. In fact, I have a Reaper fuse...sure wish I could find someone with a pair of wings they'd let go of.

Please post some information on C.G. location, surface throws (measured form what point),etc.
Any pictures of your servo layout, equipment placing, rigging, etc. would be appreciated.
Did you use fixed gear or retracts?

Mark,

Have to disagree on landing the Reaper or Draco. And ecoliburger listen up too.

Here is the trick. On what would be your normal gear down check pass, keep the plane high and reduce power to idle and pitch the nose up a bit. Once you feel the controls getting a little mushy start to add power. If it gets too mushy then drop the nose a bit. But keep adding a bit of power until you regain positive control with the nose pitched upwards. This will put the plane into what is known as slow flight. You may have to bump the throttle just 1 or 2 clicks up or down to get the right feel. Fly your normal landing leg as your would any other plane. As you setup for landing once you know you will make the runway, start reducing the power and pitch the nose up just a little more to maintain a nose high attitude. A bump of power may be necessary depending on the wind. Hold this configuration until you are over the runway and then go to idle and hold the flare off until it settles on it's own. That's all there is to making good landings with the Reaper or Draco.

Unfortunately I discovered this 4 flights before I put my Reaper into a fence coming in on final. I did not pay attention to the increased wind speed and got it too slow on final. Yes, too slow which is funny because everyone knows that these delta wing jets like to float on by. But in slow flight configuration it can get too slow if you don't adjust the power to compensate for the wind.

ecoliburger give this a try once you get your Draco in the air and you will not have any problems.
