Default "Different" model for a P70 ?

Hi all,

I have an unused P70 that is looking for a home. A few months ago I had intended buying the JL T45 for it, but given some of the issues with that model, that's not likely to happen in the immediate future. (Let's not start another war on that subject - I may revisit the model later, but for now it's off the table.)

So - what to do with the engine that is gathering dust ? I have an original BVM T33 kit that could use it, but that's a lengthy build so I still need something else in the meantime. I'm also in the early stages of designing a Gloster Meteor for P70 power, but that too is a long way off. The engine needs a home in the meantime, so as to not feel neglected.

I've looked at various "mainstream" manufacturer's sites, and with no disrepect meant to anyone who loves them, the aircraft types I've seen so far don't really appeal. F16, F18, F5, F20, F86, F22, F100, A4, MB 339, Grippen, Mirage, Rafael, MB 339, Mig 15 ... they just don't get me excited for whatever reason. Similarly on the sport side - I have two Bobcats and a Bandit already, don't need any more of the same ilk ; CARF stuff - again, no war intended, but I have some reasons for not wanting to use their stuff. Boomerang's looks don't get me excited.

Given all of the stuff that I've ruled out above, what can you guys suggest ?

Additional selection citeria:
[ul][*] Sport / Scale / Semi-scale all ok[*] Kit / ARF should be available now, and already fairly thoroughly flight tested. [*] P70 should be in the mid to high-end of the power range, not at the low end of it. [*] Don't want to spend much time re-engineering things, so I would like a well defined kit / landing gear / tank / etc combo that works well together.[*] Ideally something that can be finished in less than, say 100 -> 150 hrs - although I enjoy building I just don't have as much free time as I'd like.[*] Must be available for purchase with credit card - I'm through with wire transfers etc.
[/ul]
Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you can offer to fit my rather picky criteria, and don't be offended if I've ruled out your own particular favorite

I fly a 1/8 scale L-39 with a P-60, with the current max rpm set to 150k... it flies and lands very nicely, even if it is slightly overweight. The same could be done with this bigger L-39 setting the P-70 max rpm to match the pilot preferences. However, it is nice to have the option of some extra power sometimes..

Forgetting the scale stuff for the moment, and the Panther does sound like a good suggestion, you have identified the lack of sport models on the market. If you don't want a twin boomer like a Bobcat or Boomerang or something like a Bandit there is very little to choose from in the P70 power range.

I have just ordered an Aviation Design Scorpion as the looks are a bit different with the twin vertical stabs.

Best of luck in your search!

I wonder about wing loading though.

The dry weight is 5.25 Kg or about 11.5 pounds. It flies very very well at this weight, as long you fly it as a jet.. landings with about 30 degrees of flap are very nice and quite slow... the residual thrust of the P-60 and the extra lift and drag of the flaps makes the landing
almost a no-brainer.

HI Gordon

I have seen the PST fly on the Artes Falcon, and that had tons of power. I think the P-70 would go great in that. It's a nice size airplane too. Too bad when you were here Woody was on a trip he has a Panther.

BTW if your P-70 has real low temps give me a call Ill tell you what we did to ours .

Gordan, if you don't find a good home for that P-70, let me know right away and I'll pm you with my address. It will be well loved here!!!

Actually, I second that Scorpion, it looks awesome!

Bob,

Who, me, kit something??? I'm probably more qualified to sell T-shirts...........But you never know!

I won't be at the AZ Jet Rally. Too much drama..............I'll be sunning myself up near "The Vortex" in Sedona that weekend.

Joe, I have to work November 2 through the 5th, then I'm off until December 8th...........I hope that we can get together.

Tailwinds,

John

Joe,
John has done a superb job with the A-7. It handles beautifully and is good looking in the air, quite different from the typical looking jets out there.

I must say the looks of the AD Jets Scorpion is not my favorite but I saw it fly a few days ago at our the National Fly Inn 2006 and I was impressed how well a Ram 750 moved a plane that size around. Same plane and same pilot as the picture. Sergio Testa who was invited this year from Argentina. It also made some pretty slow aproaches and landings. I have a video but I have no idea how to reduce it so I can put it in RCU or Youtube.
