Hi guys,

3 other jet pilots and myself successully maidened our jets at a local airport in central MA. this past weekend. The wind could have been better... it was 18 to 20 mph that day, 'somewhat' down the runway.

Here's a vid if it's first ride.

Hello MEPS, #107 belongs to Flyaway, this ship has not been flown as of yet, hopefully this weekend if the weather holds.
#263 had the doors on it (this belongs to Thumbnstick) but due to retract problems he removed the doors...

Mike,
What size engine are you using in the one in the video?

Tom,

I'm using a JetCat P-70. Just about all of that cruising around was at half power.

Asif,
Check th P-60 manuel for the right gap. I think it is 3/4". The P-60 will fly it fine. I had about 70 flights on the T-45 with a wren 54 and then got a deal on a P-70 and switched it. The biggest difference in in the vertical. As big a loop and as much vertical as you want with the P-70. Next time out mine will be breaking the 100 flight mark. Make sure you have the mains properly set when it is sitting on the ground, or it will be all over the runway. Set them at least 2 degrees towed in ( pointed to the nose ) If it wanders on take off, put more in. It will track straight as an arrow when it is set right.
The plane also needs good CG. If you have plenty of elevator and it wants to bounce on landing.... you are nose heavy. The fuel tank provided will give you about 4 min or so with the P-70 and you will land with about 30% fuel left.
Treat it right and this Jet will last a long time.

Hello Jack,
Thanks for valuable info. my mains are currently sell straight.... will put some toe-in. Hopefully I will test the engine installtion and taxi run tomorrow. Is CG ok at 120mm back from leading edge at root? and how much "up" travel is OK for flying?

Thanks
Asif

I’m nearly done with my Red Bull Hawk. It weighs about 21 lbs dry and I’m expecting it go up slightly more, but hopefully not too much over 22lbs. Is this about where you guys are at with yours? Wing loading is going to be pretty high judging by its current weight. I'm expecting it to be around 28-29 pounds fully loaded. P-80 should push it well, but I wonder how will it handle in slow flight?

Also, I’m considering cutting into the engine bay hatch scopes to allow air to flow in and out. Has anyone else done this, any adverse effects in flight? Couple of pictures below…

Guys,
I test flew my T-45 !!!!!!!!!!!!! I flew beatifully.. I just flew once as weather was getting bad. More flights probably on sunday. As far as flight is concerned, there is no surpirse, takeoff was easy, the aircraft tracks as if on rails, despite strong steady cross wind. Landing was aslo was easy, I had flaps set at 26mm down and 3% up elevator, a little throttle mamgement is require for landing... All in all, its a nice aircraft.
All my setup was as per Eric Banner's recommendation in his rewiew few months ago in RCJI.

Regards
Asif

Asif,
How was the performance with the P-60? Take off distance, climb, etc.

Mark if you recall at the OC-Turbo fest last October Jack G. has a Wren 54 Mk III in his T-45, it flew very scale like!

Yeah Rich,
That's actually the only one I've seen fly... so far I know it flew well too and would like to see a side by side comparison with the P60. I think the Wren may put out a little more.

Causeitflies,
I like the performance of this aircraft on P60, speed was good despite strong wind. I personally dont like over powered aircraft. P60 gives good speed envelope. You can get good cruise speed with 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.
I believe takeoff was under 300ft. T-45 accelerates quickly even with P60. I am satisfied with P60 in this aircraft.

R Belluomini, I will post pictures on sunday!!
