RE: Simjet owners, how do you like your turbine?
I have had two of the Simjet 1200's and they both seem to run great. I have the new 1200SP now that produces 16.5 lbs thrust. It started for me the first try right out of the box and so far I haven't had a failed start yet. Best bang for your buck IMO.

Geeezzzz.... many people with different agendas out there....
I have always loved this hobby and REALLY disliked all the arguing and fighting between guys sharing the same hobby!
We're all in this to enjoy model airplanes and have a good time, right??
Back to the original question: There are LOTS of jet pilots over here who fly Simjet turbines - I have a 3000, and it is a pleasure to hear it start up, it has all the power you need and works every time. I know at least 10 other guys here who would say the same... I just ordered the new SU27 Flanker from Grumania, and will power it with a Simjet 700 full auto start.
The servicing is excellent - 3-5 day turnaround and not expensive..
If somebody else think their turbine is better in any way, I would say that it always comes down to a matter of taste and personal experience.
I will not rate other turbines, I simply want to say that I have great experience with my Simjet and will recommend it hands down!

RE: Simjet owners, how do you like your turbine?
Hi,
1x Simjet 85, manual air start , gold ecu, 400+ flights, original bearings, flying it tomorrow, couple of hot starts down to me, recent in flight problems, clean filters, make fresh fuel mix plus tweak tx settings, fine since.
1x Simjet 2300, manual air start(then motor start),silver ecu, original bearings, 200+ flights until fireballed last August, repairable but nothing to put it in attm, will spend when I have to.
Basically the engines are absolutely sound but from the experience of a friend then Simjet have had their problems with their electronics but the latest version fitted to his 2300 has been faultless, looks like they've got there??
regards Mike

RE: Simjet owners, how do you like your turbine?
hi guy's noting that this thread is over 3 years old i had to throw my 2 cents in. here in australia we have a choice of engines, jet cat, wren, simjet, tjt, pst, the list goes on. i chose to buy a tjt which is not very well known and i took my chances.every body who i spoke to(none of them owned a tjt only seen them run and 1 bloke did not even own a turbine) said chris monkly is going out of bussiness and this and that his donks dont run blah blah blah. well i put that sucker in my roo and had 200 maintainance free flights and only 2 hot starts one was self inflicted (i was drunk and showwing off and the other the o ring in the clutch was worn) i kicked this thing in the guts and flew and flew and flew. 90% of the flights of an old paddock with no grass. i think people who have trouble with turbines should stop tinkering and just fly the things out of the box. if it dont work find out why, faulty fadec or other parts. you should not modify the engine or play with parameters. the tjt was awesome and had 33 1/2 pounds on my test bench but others said it only had no more than 24 pounds..... who knows more ofcourse the people who dont own one or the people who own one the same people who build them or the people who dont build them.........

RE: Simjet owners, how do you like your turbine?
I was sold the above engine as a Simjet 2300 AS (air start) but have been told since that it's a 2250.
What do you guys think?
Thanks again in advance.
Alan.
Ps, The cowl has been painted by the guy I sold it to.

Hello Alan
As I told you this type of engines was made from year 1997 to 2001 they was first sold as 2250 and late in the period as 2300 when we got our AMA certification in 2000 all sold as 2300 AS engines the only difference was app 200 gram of thrust. We stopped making this type in 2001 when the 2300 AES with full auto start came out.

Sounds like Simjet is coming into the US in a big way with lots of new reps.
Let's here from some actual owners. I realize that most of these engines are in the hands of reps at this time but let's try and hear from non-rep owner/operators if possible.
What has your experience been with your turbines and the 1700 and 1200 in particular? Any problems? How many runs and flights have you had without incident. If you have had any problems what have they been?

Here is the 2300. This is a 66 mm class engine and the same physical size is shared by the current 2200, 2300 and 3000 engines. I do not have a pic of the 2250 and is of the same size but has not been in production for several years now.
I have a 1200 in my FACET, a 2300 in my Frankel F4D SkyRay and a NEXUS -3600 in my 1/4 scale Vampire.
Many seeing my Skyray fly at Florida jets where pleasantly surprised at the fuel efficiency of the 2300. We will be flying this aircraft again this weekend at Liberty Bell.
Stop by and say hello.
Best Regards:

RE: Simjet owners, how do you like your turbine?
Thanks for the picture Kerry,
Much appreciated.
I've managed to find a picture of a 2250 and the tailpipe seems to be different from your 2300 !
See here http://www.wjj.idv.tw/rc/ffs/SFS/%E8%A2%8B%E9%BC%A0.htm
And Lars has confirmed the 2250 has 400gms less in thrust, so my turbine (although now re-named a 2300 model) actually is one of the earlier 2250 series. Can you confirm this Lars (Warp6) please.
Thanks, Alan.
Much appreciated.

RE: Simjet owners, how do you like your turbine?
Hello Alan
NO I made a error the thrust difference was 220 gram=app. half a pound sorry for the mistake, regarding the exhaust there are no difference the one with a big centre cone was used until 2001 both on the 2250 and 2300 an at that time 1910/1700 in 2002 all the engines got the new exhaust with the small inside centre cone except form a few engines with out centre cone but this was found to be to noisy.
So to make it clear the ONLY difference between the 2250 and the 2300 in year 1999 to 2001 was 1mm on the diameter at the outer exhaust the engines was 99,90 % the same, and by the way sold for the same price just for the record
Ps. All 2300/2250 with the old exhaust ( big centre cone ) have gold front cover the new types have a blue.
Regards
Lars

You say the only difference between the 2250 and the 2300 is "1mm on the diameter at the outer exhaust" , then where does that leave us with the thrust difference?
Can you please tell me what model this turbine is?

RE: Simjet owners, how do you like your turbine?
The 2250 had app 10,2 kg of thrust and the 2300 app 10,5 kg @ 122-123000 rpm / the new types still in produktion with blue front cover was named 2300-25 11,5 kg thrust BUT all af them deliver more then 12 kg to day.
Your engiens that i sold you many years ago was 2300 with gold cover and that have not changed even the frontcover have been painted red
