I decided to work on the doors before I mold the fuel tanks. Progress has been slow, but I am happy with the results so far.

Stratotanker - Any more progress with this? I just picked one of these up and have a P120 ready to install - yours is looking really sweet and the gear doors just add that touch of class dude!
Keep the updates coming!

sadly no! I am in the middle of building the PST F-84G for a customer and then it is on the the F-9F panther. The Phoenix is on hold until I get my hot rod built, it is taking most of my money right now. Post pics of yours when it is done and let me know how it flies onm the larger engine. Good luck!

Well, it is time to revive this build. The F-84 is finished and I am ready to do some building after my deployment! The rudders did not sit that well with me so I cut them off and designed new ones that will have pin hinges. All the flight controls will be looked at closely and will be worked to make sure they will stay on the jet, the P120 is going to push her around quite well I am guessing!
Here is the initial design, very light and stout! just a little more tweaking and they will be good to go!

Hi Chris,
Just for your information, I have been flying my stock Phoenix and SuperPhoenix prototype for over one year now with the Merlin 110 GE and P-120SX.
The Airframe handles the power just fine. Top speed recorded at 420 km/h ( 260 mph ). So throttle management is essential to comply with the AMA/FAA speed limit.
The case of the P-120 SX is a bit more critical because of the weight of the engine and the g's it can handle. I'd recommend you to put two vertical hard wood plates inside the fuselage along the engine mounting location to join the lower and upper skins.
This will be sufficient to take the loads.

Oliver,
Thanks for the input. That area was a concern of mine as well and will get some TLC. Did you do anything with the booms similar to the Kingcat upgrades???

Here are some pictures that I took quite a while ago. There was no way I was putting servos in the little plastic hatch covers, I wanted them locked into to the airframe. All the servo bays will get similar treatment.

This is version two, had to make a few changes that I overlooked and I wanted to add structure for the control horn...
