Hi, it's a two part question:
1- can the elevons & ailerons be mixed with good result? if yes, i would like some info on it pls
2- what is the (practical) differece in flight control between ailerons and/or elevons ?
the reason i ask these Q. is i noticed when a full scale jet lands it uses a lot of elevons control > i realize since RC jet has no fly-by-wire computer sys. the use of combined ailerons and elevons can't be compared to the real jet but it's worth asking how such a combo could be used with the sophisticated mixes Tx's can now offer
Thanks,
V.

We are toying with mixing ailerons and elevons on our F18's. It seems to make the plane a bit more solid feeling in turns. Raf has tried it on his 18 and I will try it soon on mine. It is my opinion that elevon alone does not seem to work well for me, but when you mix ailerons to elevetors it seems to improve the turn feeling...this is, again, early in the experiment....

Like Ehab said. I feel that the turn feels smoother, especially at the start, and a smoother roll rate. Here is the breakdown in the planes and number of flights with ailerons/elevon mix
JL f-18C - 5 flights
SM F-18C- 5 flights
Tam's F-18F- 4 flights
Air Magic F-15C- 1 flight
I don't think I will be going back to just aileron anytime soon. I left the aileron throws at the recommended throws and just "eyeballed" the elevons. I'm thinking about trying it with the bandit and kingcat! [X(]

I recently flown a F-15 which had aleirons mixed with the elevons. The plane had a "strange" feel in turns and nor the owner or I knew what was the cause of this problem,,, flew it twice, checked servos, bats, everything but the problem continued. After some head scratching I found a setup problem in the radio: the elevons had 25% of expo but the ailerons where incorrectly mixed directly to the aleiron stick, so they didn´t had expo.
The difference with the correct mix was visually imperceptible at the surface movements, but they where huge on the F-15 handling, that handled as good as it should after fixing this.. so the moral is to be extra careful in the mixes and throws if you are going to do this setup.

Only Ehab uses expo!
Seriously though, I am not using any expo anywhere. I am using the elevon mix on my 10x under menu 22- wing type. One elevator servo, is in the elevator slot and the other is in the aileron slot. I then use an aux channel (not aux 4 or 5) and use my ailerons on a Y, which is mixed as the aileron as master. Trim on.
It has worked very well so far.
