i love that series....my dad was profiled by producers.......he survived an attact in a .....get this unarmed dakota/dc3...in north africa late 1943....it seems a bf109 caught him over coast of tunisha....anyway should have been easy kill for bf109 pilot.....but german pilot opened up too soon.....thus alerting my dad that fighter was on his tail.........he jinked arround/lowerd flaps/pull an engine and 109 kept blowing past......than he would dive out....while calling for help.....he got lucky....seems like another flight of spitfires were arround and one was monitering that frequency.......he got help...but not after 109 pilot had shot out one engine and riddled both wing tanks/plus bathtub sized center tank....anyway he flamedout 45 min later...and deadsticked into the closest bay........my dad never even got wet...a patrol boat saw the landing and picked him and crew up asap.....the thing is the dakota would not sink...day and half later it was still happily bobing arround until shell fire from same patrol boat finally sank her.....dad was promoted to lt col after that and now dads 92...he later was arround to sire me and teach me to fly........so glad that german was such a lousy shot.............kelly

GREAT STORY.
I have a bunch of these on Tivo but never seem to have time to watch. I liked the F-8 episode though, I did watch that one. The Mig 15 v Sabre Korea episode was also very good. I've got a few work colleagues that have Mig kills to their credit - one in an F-105 in SEA and another in a F-86 in Korea. In both cases I had to work the stories out of them over several pubs but it's all great to me becasue I'm a bit of a history buff at times.

I agree, it's a really good series. However, it drives me nuts when they start talking about the SBD pulling 9 G turns! Please, the pilot couldn't survive it and 9 g's would pull the wings off a SBD. They say the same thing about 9 and 11 g's on other prop driven planes.
IMHO, last weeks was one of the best. I really got interested in the Israel aces and surprisingly, there's a lot of info out there, including F-16 aces. Never knew that there were any F-16 aces!
Good show and accurate graphics, like the side blisters on the F-105 Wild Weasel.

As for the rest of the series. Love it as well. The Death of the Japanese Navy and I missed out on seeing the sinking of the Bismark. History Channel offers some of these shows on DVDs now.
