Default the details

Hi Todd!

Great photos and thankyou for posting them! I'm just luving the panel and detail work on the bottom of that wing you are shoing in the last picture posting. So the flap servos are nestled up against the fuse are they?

Default T2 Flight Antics

Yes, the D&B T2 did have some interesting issues at high AOAs. If I remember correctly the wing and stab were set at +2 degrees as the full scale T2. I believe I still have factory drawings which D & B used to design their kit by. Needles to say at AOAs above 30-40 degrees nose up at cruise speed the aircraft would snap to it's back. An exciting thing to experience when operating at the lower altitudes. So cruising around outside of the snap range was enjoyable and the T2 does look impressive with the tall T-tail and tip tanks providing a good siloutte. On landing the aircraft had no bad habits and as a matter of fact, you really did not need the flaps. A word of warning on takeoff. Once you rotate and begin to climb out, keep the nose tracking by starting the turn and loading up the aircraft. If you elect to continue a slow lazy straight ahead climb the nose will continue to raise and full down elevator will not provide any help. As you can imagine, this important safety tip is provided by my misfortune. Wanting to do the long lazy scale climb-out ate my breakfast one sunny Sunday morning and thats the rest of the story. As soon as I see these issues worked out I am on my way to buy another and spend less time engineering and enjoy flying.

Default T2 Flight Antics

Thanks for your input Norm. Your reference to the SKS video of Florida Jets 2000 rang a bell for me. I dug through some past correspondence and found I had some good feedback from Greg Thomas about a year ago, regarding the first flight experiences of what must be your T2.
The short version of his advice was.....build something else!! Does this sound familiar?
I am too far in to quit now so if nothing else, I'll get some experience.
/Doug

Default T-2

Yes, Greg is my scale flying partner and went through the fun with the T-2. You have a great looking ship and wish you the best in your efforts. I know then initial T-2 was not overly successfull but if I had a ship ready to go like yourself, I'd press on with the gained knowledge and try to make it happen.

Good Luck as we await your results,
Norm

Todd,
Very nice looking jet,and good luck on the first flight.
Remember, if the real one wasn't made of aluminum, and didn't have guns, it's not worth modeling.

Thanks Joe, Can't take all the credit though I think Mike may have had a hand in building this one but will let you know about the first flight. I hope I can get with Mike at his place Sunday and give it a shot if all the rain don't float us away and I just got my Tom COOK F-4 back together and running so I might be able to give it a shot Sunday too..I think it was made of metal and had a few guns on it... Thanks a bunch Todd Jackson

Joe, Don't listen to this guy. Todd is a whole lot better than he lets on. One of the best sticks in the country. Not bad with the building skills either. Mike

Default T2 First flight Questions??????????

Hi Guys, My buddy bought a T2 from a guy in Central California. Kind of a beater but its still a T2! We are going to put the first flight on it next week and wondered if anyone would let me know the pitfalls I should look out for. CG, throws are unknown to us as of yet. It has NO cheater holes, and I dont have any Idea what version it os or modifications made to it. Could someone give me a clue as to what I should look for as far as incidence Wing and Tail also? Cant wait to fly it, I'll post pics after it flies!
Thanks
Will Whiteside

I know this thread is old, but I've had My T2 on the shelf for about a year now, and I think Im ready to finish it. The Jet was sold to me RTF but on inspection I found that it needed some re-work. If there is anyone who is interested in helping me with my questions I will post them. Thanks

Hi guys
I had a D and B T2J some years ago. As a matter of fact I still have the wing with flaps and airlerons
still up in the attic. My memories of the flight characteristics was that it was an excellent flyer and I did not notice any bad tendencies. I lost the airplane due to stupidity namely stalling on takeoff. The landings were not fast at all and were predictable. If anyone wants I will be glad to see if I can find a box big enough for the one piece wing and send it out if you pay the shipping. No other money involved.
If I remember correctly I had goodsized cheaterholes in the fuse.
It should fly great on a 12 lb turbine which would put it on step a lot quicker than a fan
Anyway let me know
Ed

Kyle,
Let me know what the wingspan is. If it is an updated version of the D & B kit, the wing should work
I will get up in My HOT, HOT attick !00degrees at least and see what my wingspan is.

Ed,
The wing span on mine is 68inches, including the tip tanks. Without the tip tanks its about 63 1/2 inches. By the way, i grew up in Malverne, NY. Just a few towns away from you.
