Default Hearing protection

Just watched the 2002 Superman video and I was somewhat surprised not to see a wider use of hearing protection.

I spent 2 years of my life as a ramp rat and lost a good chunk of my hearing in the upper frequencies, so I hate to see other people inflict this on themselves.

Having made my preferences known, I was curious how other folks view the use or non-use of hearing protection in close proxitimity to turbines (ie start up and shutdown..)

It depends on whether the motors are being run up to full power in the pits. Start up and idle do not pose a problem??

I'm also amazed as to the little respect people show their own ears...

I do work as a ramprat on my fourth year now, and i always protect my hearing for future use...
