Wow mate, that is going to be quite some starter jet project.

However, anything is possible.

I think you can expect some help if you gave us a bit more information, For instance:

Are you going to build it from a kit? And if so, which one? If not, are you building it from a set plans? What are you planning to make the various diamensions, if it's scratch built?

I can only tell you that 2 x P120's will power a rather big (and very long) SR71, I trust you've got a means of getting it to your flying site.

Good luck.

Check out Lance Cambell's efforts at this site:

http://www.mmrca.org/lance/sledframe.html

He has been working on his SR-71 for over 5 years!

Have you ever flown a jet before? If not, then get some time in on something simpler while you build your dream.

Regards

The possibilities are endless. Perhaps a few more beers would make it all clear.

I think trying to start out with an Sr-71 with 2 P-120's is a quick way to make a $15,000.00 hole. [X(]

I don't think many people would fly that with you. If anyone wants to buddy box with you on this airplane, be a skeptic.

Your SR-71 is more like a 3rd jet, at best....

A SMOKING HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there have only been a few successful sr's in the last 20 years of jet modelling. more than 10 did not make the first lap. 1 1/2 minutes on avg. give me the $15000.00 -i will kick you in the family jewels and you will feel as though you went the way of the sr-71.

The SR-71 is definitely not a first jet. Nothing wrong with working toward a goal though. Maybe by the time you're ready, Lance will have a kit for sale.

If you want to hang it up and look at it, sure....if you want to fly it, definitely NO... If you have any hopes of being successful, you'd need to lower your sights quite a bit.........

Hi Stryder. Popcorn and beer aside..

My first jet was a twin F-15, 38 Lbs wet, with 45 Lbs of thrust. Just terriffic! Ballistic in the true term..
However, a SR 71 is quite anoter story..

The stability in the aileron axis of this model, of far from what you want to be a starter in your career. Diving into gyros and such to compensate, is faaar from your level at this point.
Skills need to have some real jet-airtime before you decide for this model. (!)

My advice, is to take a few step backwards, and aim forward to it later on. Find a stable model, such as a F-15, F-16, or a Boomerang XL. All those can get you airborne in just a blink.

Dreams and reality tends to make some gaps now and then, so this is a advice to you.. I know all about it. and I have done it the looong way, the safe way.

If you take my advice, I know you will understand after you have done your lessons. Then get back to the aims you had..[8D]

You won`t regret...

very eloquently stated...build a single engine kit ...you will be amazed at how a turbine jet flies especially with advanced wing loading even with the so called trainers.....its simply too much to tackle with first project.....twin 120's...your into it 6k...a really expensive smokin hole in the ground...as my frist flight instructor said...you have to learn somewhere...but not with this one...
