I'm interested in the combat model F-16 Jet kit. However, I am new to the Hobby and am wondering why this kit seems to be so much cheaper than let's say a Byron Origionals F-16? What is the difference. I noticed a Combat Models jet kit went for less than 200.00 on Ebay and someone has one for sale for $115.00 Does the COmbat Model F16 not look like scale?
I need some help understanding the difference.
Thanks [email protected]

It's because combat models F16 is a pusher prop plane(engine mounted on the external tail of the plane) where is bryons F16 is a ducted fan jet,the two planes are 2 totally different jets ....hope that clears it up for you

Hello,
The Combat models F-16 offers a low cost alternative to fly a jet that is very scale with out the high cost of a typical ducted fan or turbine investment. I have owned several F-16s; BVM, Yellow , and two CBM's. I have to say Fun for the Price, you can not beat the CBM F-16! If you have absolutely nothing in the way of equipment " Radio, Engine ,Glue, Paint" you would need spend 500 to 650 to a CBM F-16 in the air. Contrast that to 2500 + for your average ducted fan or 6000 + for a turbine you can see that if money is a issue CBM is the best way to go.
Now I am not by any means suggesting that CBM is better than any of the other products; as I mentioned before I have had about every F-16 that has been on the market and I have loved them all. Its just that CBM offers a product that requires a low cost investment that delivers a great deal of fun.
The size of the CBM F-16 is about the same as a BVM or Yellow but only requires a 45 instead of a 91 because the jet only weighs about 8 pounds. The performance is outstanding for having such a small engine. Top speed is about 110 level flight. Flight characteristics are very predictable and forgiving.
I think the best feature of all is the comfort level I have flying this model; I will fly in just about any condition. I don't have the stress of flying a 6000+ aircraft or have to search out a runway that is 500 + feet long. I know that if I do crash it is very easy to do field repairs. I remember once " Thank God" I had completely ripped out my landing gear, tore of the nose and busted a wing tip "due to a bad cross wind or so I like to claim
"; was back in the air in less than 30 minutes.
Ok enough of me talking about the CBM F-16 I think you can see I would recommend it.
Good Luck.
David.
PS. here is a shot of my CBM F-16

You can convert the combat to DF. They give you the instructions on how to do it. I used the dynamax fan for my set up. works great. Alot of work to convert it. If you want to get into DF model at a reasonable price. Get a TOP GUN AIRCRAFT Kit. You are looking at just under a thousand. Easy to build kit. They fly like a trainer and you can do most areobatics with there kits.

the f-16 mentioned is a nice loking airplane. it is almost exact in outline to any other scale -16. i had one and got rid of it because of their customer service, frankly it sucked. do a search on this forum and type in cbm f-16. you will find i bet about one hundred complaints about parts missing in the kit, umable to get in touch with them, or parts like landing gear never shipping. i never got my gear and all it is are robarts and some brass tubes. well if you do go that way, i would say to get a kit from somebody here on rcu, you have a better chance at recieving everything that way. oh and that conversion, is so outlandishly involved, it is hardly worth it.

Hey Marty,
Think I'll chime in on this one;
"If you have absolutely nothing in the way of equipment " Radio, Engine ,Glue, Paint" you would need spend 500 to 650 to a CBM F-16 in the air." -Shockwave
I once bought the CB F16N, thinking I'd do what the ad suggested, by using this model as a budget priced stepping stone before a DF model. What a mistake it turned out to be. I spent around $800 to get the model ready (not including radio; add another $500 for a jet radio). The plane quickly made it to the trash heap. The thing that kinda irked me is how long this plane takes to get ready. I have no doubt that a Yellow Aircraft or similar could be completed in less time.
"Well if you do go that way, I would say to get a kit from somebody here on rcu, you have a better chance at receiving everything that way." -Hornet1
Hornet1 and I must shop from the same store. My kit also was missing several vital pieces. Not sure about buying the kit from a fellow modeler, especially this notorious kit. If he hasn't done a thorough inspection, then you'll blame him for what could very well be Combat's mistake. I strongly suggest buying the kit from Combat if you're going to go this route. Call them by phone and order in person. Ask them if they'll be available to you for advice after you've purchased their product. If they're hesitant with any of these questions, or you don't even get through in the first place, then look at other model companies.(period)
Finally, Shockwave, my baseball cap is completely off to you as you have done the impossible...not only completing the F16N, but, made it look like a million bucks in the process. Nice job! If it weren't for that thing at the tail end, I'd mistake it for a much higher priced DF model. Again, excellent job with the detailing.
Steve
PS: James, you too get the "baseball cap off award" for successfully completing the F16N. A very nice job as well. But, have you nothing better to do than surf RCU at 2 a.m.!
