Disassembling an old BVM nose retract?

Hi guys:
I am disassembling an old BVM nose retract of my F-80 because the retract frame broke on my last landing. My question is, how do you remove the brass pins that are at each side that hold in place the nose strut block assembly?
The only way to remove them is the same way they went in and they are press fit and flush with the retract frame. I dont want do break the frame because that would render it useless and it is fixable if I use an aluminum retract brace and use it as a future spare.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Eduardo

you'll have to use a punch and drive the pin out supporting the frame on the back side as close to the hole as possible as you drive it out.

You cant drive it out as the trunion is in the way, you can pull it out by making a simple tool from a wheel collar. Get a wheel collar that has an ID just larger than the brass insert (you may need to drill it out) You will need to grind away one edge of it as the bottom of the brass insert is flush with the top of the rail. ( this may not sound clear, but it will be evident what you need to do when you look at the collar and frame together) The brass insert is tapped for a 4-40 thread already. get a 4-40 bolt that is just 2-3mm longer than the collar ( you will probably have to cut one down) and strong washer, place the collar over the insert, place the washer on the collar and thread the bolt into the insert, turn the bolt and it will pull out the insert. You may need to double up on the collar and use a longer 4-40 after you pull out the insert a few mms. Scott

You are most welcome Eduardo-Glad you got it done. I dont know if you can fix the frame-the only place that a repair is possible is if the back cross brace breaks. You can repair it with the aluminum :"L" bracket that BVM sells. Any other place you get a break in basicly unrepairable and will break very easily again. ( I have broken more than a few in my time) Regards, Scott
