I have mounted a BVM UAT in a MiG15, inclined and facing forward as per the instructions, however can the tank be mounted so the fill and tank feed brass nipples are under under the main cap (down), or MUST they be above (up)?
Attached is a pic of the proposed installation with the nipples in the down position.

Yep, that obvious!
Reading the fitting instructions it is suggested that the tank is set to a 20 degree incline and the brass nipples are facing up, but the wording is not 100%, have slightly less space to play with on the top set up but enough to achieve the desired result.
When I looked at other threads regarding this, and the picture you posted for that matter the tank is mounted vertically, not at the 20 degree incline, so my interpretation lead me to thinking it may not be that critical.
Will post some updates tomorrow as I know Al is back from Top Gun.
Marc.

I was not planning on mounting the tank with the fittings facing down guys, I realise with minimal thought that air rises, the question was wether the brass fill and tank feed nipples could be on the underside of the main cap (when mounted at 20 degree and facing up) so the air was trapped in the space above the main cap and not sucked into the main fuel feed. There are installations where the UAT is mounted dead vertical, in this position it wont make any difference which way the nipples are facing, so I had to ask if it matters when inclined at 20 degrees.
I could also ask why the UAT can be mounted dead vertical when the instructions say at around 20 degrees?

in your case you need to have the plane inverted to refuel it :-)
anyway just mount it vertical or horizontal it does not matter , like gordon says tilt the nose slightly to get the air out while refueling..

Guys, cheers for the comments, having the nipples on the top is no problem with the set-up I have made, all it means is I have slightly less room to work with than if they were in the position shown (for reference only in the picture) - but hey who needs room, especially in the MiG
