I am thinking of building this Jet and use a ramtec/os91 power combo. Anybody here flew one?? I am wondering how well it flies and how well does it land? Any tips on building/flying one are appreciated. Thanks

JimmyA - How are you? I have been flying a spectre with a ramtec/os 91 combination you speak of. Needless to say that this a very reliable setup with ample power. The airframe has almost 200 flights on it, and it would have been around 300 by now if I hadn't delved into turbines.
The plane can be landed slowely without a problem. Move the c of g back a little, and nose high, power on landings are easily achievable. Gear doors and brakes are nice to have but are by no means necessary. Stick with two servos total in the wing - this is ample. From the many spectres I have seen in our country, the airframe has a great tolerence for varying weights - that is I have seen 10lb spectres, and I have seen 17lb spectres fly. Average weight is around the 13lb mark. I hope this has been of some help, regards Frankie.

What kind of retracts did you use? can I use Robarts Spring air in it? I want to install brakes and Gear doors as well. I think it would be nice to have. I will be flying it from a 500' foot paved runway. Thanks for your help.

I have Spring Air Retracts (not Robart) in my Spectre. Its a very tight fit, but goes in easily---no mods. The wing is thick enough that you don't have to use the outward folding retracts. I don't know the part number of the ones that I have but they fold over on top of the cylinder. I also have LiteFlyte custom made struts and doors with Trim wheels and brakes, but if you plan on doing doors, be sure you keep everything very tight. I even turned a "T" shapped axel and press fit it into the strut so that I didn't have to have a wheel collar.
If you get a Spectre, plan on doing a good deal of building. The kit is very basic but makes a fine airplane. I got mine direct from Trim, but check with Ed and Kevin at Great Northern Models. I'm sure they can hook you up with a great price.

PS-Oh, get the Trim fiberglass after fairing too. Its a pretty part that is cheap and will give you a few more mph

I used spring airs(302), with 5/32 wire legs. I fly from very ordinary grass strips so struts were out of the question. If you can fly from paved surfaces, then I'd go for gear doors, but brakes are really not required on this jet with its low speed landing capabilities. Regards Frank
