hey guys with the down thrust in the turbine (3 to 5 dergrees which is it )
do we really need to cover the bottom of the elivator with the alum tape
and is the cg in the book good or does it need to go back some

Hi 454.
its 5 degrees down thrust and yes you do need too cover the bottom in foil or gaurd the tail cone of the turbine when starting.
I left my fuel tap open when filling {stupid thing to do give my self a good talking too}and had a wet start,this melted the covering on the bottom of the tailplane in seconds.
Lucky for me no damage to wood work not even scorched.

Yes the rudders and ailerons are very thick.
I made up a wedge shape spacer taped to the trailing edge so that the control surface became parallel to my pillar drill plate marked through the control horn and drilled straight through.
Spot on ---------------------------

Final question to falcon's turbine users, besides the routine beef-up improvements MUST I strip the wings , elevator and eilerons and fully sheet the entire flying surfaces???
Also do you guys recommend a removable/permanent wings set-up. The renovable wings seems to me pretty complicated and time consuming.

Hey BigTop!!! I just mark one side with a felt pen for the hole pattern and then drill the holes. When you get the horn side on just use a pin in the other holes to align it all up, once you get 2 screws in place the 3rd is easy...

Hi,

I don't think that stripping the whole of the wing is worth doing! I would like to think that the aircraft would stand up to the forces that any small jet would put on it. We must make sure that all of the glue joints do in fact have glue on them, as most of the joints are dry.
Depending on what type of jet you plan to put on it. I don't think anyone should go too mad with this particular aircraft as it is a cheap BVM type alternative to the Bobcat. So lets keep it as a cheap project not only in money but time. Wingarts machine flys great on his Wren 54 power plant, he has upgraded the aileron hinges and control rods.
I have left my hinges as was, but upgraded my rods to 3mm. I'm using a Wren 44 gold 10lbs thrust. And if you check out the build thread over on RC Groups you'll see the need to add glue is essential.
Regarding the removable wing, I hope that mine fits into my car in one piece, I don't fancy taking it apart each time.

I just bought one of these Falcons from a buddy of mine. I have a question concerning the vertical stabs. Do any of you guys that are flying these with turbines have to add rudder trim to get it to fly straight? I was wondering because The vertical stabs trailing edges are sanded as if to incorparate automatic trim when the rudders are lined up with the trailing edge of the vertical stab. In other words, the rudders are symetrical if you draw a centerline from leading edge to trailing edge but the trailing edge stock of the vertical stab is not so therefore when you line the rudders up with the trailing edge of the vertical stabs, the rudder is actually not centered. If no one is having to add trim, then I'll build mine as is.

I would simply line up the rudders to the airframe's X-Z plane then.

Hi ALL,
I too have joined the ranks of Falcon 120 owners. I have been following this thread since the beginning and it has been extremely helpful so far even though I have just begun. I hope to get some questions answered here and maybe some of my mistakes,techniques may help others as well.
One question I have right now is pertaining to the replacement of the wing and boom bolts. I have been unable to fine M6-10 metal bolts for replacement. I would love to fine aluminum. Does anyone know where I might find these.

If you put the rudder servos on separate channels, you will be able to fine tune the trim over time, shouldnt be an issue. I have seen many full sc ale jets get bent minutely. Should not be an issue. The challenge with twin rudders if trimming them relative to each other while still maintaining no fuselage sideslip because the forces will offset each other. An extreme example is lets say one rudder is deflected 5 degrees the other is zero. The plane will still be able to be trimmed for zero yaw, but the rudders will both be deflected opposite each other, likely in a proportional amount. THen you can individually trim them back to zero incidence and try again to retrim in flight. Keep at it, and by individually recentering a few times, you in effect trim out the differences in the airfoil, and imperfections. The jet will find equalibrium by using your rudder trim. I see this in ailerons all the time. Once its trimmed, look at the surfaces and retrim them for equalibrium. then try again. Its really easy to do with separate channels, just like flaperons. Just remember the linkages should be as identical as possible for perfect proportions.

Once trimmed, you have minimized drag as well by finding the least drag position that produces zero sideslip.

Yes they fit very well, all I had to do was trim about 3mm off the balsa at the inner edge of the retract socket. I'll have to check which ones, I've long since thrown the packaging away.
I'm using the ones that I had in my AMD Hawk which I sadly crashed. I'll have a look around for you to see if I can get the info that you need.

The wheels that come with the kit fit fine. Ihad to bush mine out as the Spring air retract struts where a little thinner than the fix undercarridge strut that come with the kit!
