RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Johnny,
I figured they would work, but was just concerned they might look to short and stubby on the plane and she'll look like a low rider haha.
Thanks,
Brian

Tumbler,
Your struts are fine, shorten the wheel wells to match the strut length.
Remember, you do not have a prop that needs ground clearance.
Do not cut out any more film than you need for the wheel wells.

Here is a pic of mine with the shorter struts next to one with the prop clearence struts.
I think the taller ones look like storks

Thanks for the pics and tips about the struts guys!
1. I didn;t ahve to do muchs to the wing to get the 630's to fit. I did hysol triangle stock in at all the glue joints.
2. I cut out new formers for the nosegear out of 1/4" ply.
3. I am using the servos and hatch covers from my Kangaroo and making them fit the Falcon. ggh
Lot's more to do...ughh

Mine too arrived with a broken canopy. This was back in the Fall. I called the number on the web site, spoke to a guy and he said he'd send out a new Canopy as soon as they got some parts in. It took about a month or so, but I got it. IIRC, I had to call a lot to get through, though. It was like they are only answering the phones during very restricted hours of the week.

You have to call after noon California time. The hours are on their website. Even then you usually have to call several times to get through. Mine also came with a broken canopy. They sent a replacement out right away.
The replacement canopy was poorly packed and the box was crushed like an accordian. They gave me a hard time about the second replacement. I had to email them pictures. After that the second replacement arrived in good condition. After a number of these you'd think they'd be smart enough to improve their packaging and to stop using UPS.

Thanks guys! I have the .25 size and that was broken too. You are right....it seems to happen a lot so they should try something different. I have her on her feet. Looks like my struts and gear will work just fine.
Did you guys fin that the smaller wing tube does not align well? I had to open up the whole and will later have to put a plywood plate inside the fuse once i set the incidence. This may be in the instructions but haven't used them yet haha.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
hi all,put another 5 flights on her today and find that i can land better with only half flaps and drop her in from height on a closed throttle-rather than fly her down with full flaps and half thottle until just before flair, which works best for you guys?
the air powers are brilliant,i had some teething problems that were no fault of the plane and with the trailing links the set up is awesome-i like my stork
if you got undercarriage this good-you want it to be seen-stork-i like that, think its her proper name

I was careful drilling the holes for the wing tubes and started small and slowly went to larger bit sizes until I could just fit the tubes through. They fit very snug and have not had to use plywood plates behind to align them. By the way, the only thing I used the instructions for was for the CG. I assembled the plane without even looking at the instructions since they are a joke. I've assembled many arfs and everything was straight forward.

Hmmm, well my hole came right through the hole in the root rib int he fuse, but that put the wing at about 3 degrees positvive indicence on the one side and wouldn;t even fit in the other side. I will have to just put blocks on the inside now.

I had the same problem with the small wing tube.
When I got everything set up & straight I glued a 25 x 25mm plate inside fuz (each side) with exact wing tube hole in it. Wing incidence is spot on with fuz mouldings.
Works a treat so dont panic!!!!
Mine almost ready ot fly - just final setting up & trimming ready for CG in next few days or so.
OS 160 FX with 14 x 14 pusher!!!
Had it running on test bench and this has some thrust

Awesome, thanks man!! I guess I will mount the stab and set the wing to the stab since it is not adjustable.
Good luck with the maiden!

Tumbler, I had the same problem. Guess my calibrated eye was not working that day. So I did what you did. Over size the hole and use a plate glassed in on the inside to correct the incidence off set.

Mike,
Measured from the leading edge toward the tail. The molding of my fuse doesnt line up exactly with the leading edge of the wing so i measure 13" from the leading edge of the wing, not the molding of the fuse.

I just couldn't stand seeing those servos hanging out in the breeze, so just took a little extra time to make servo hatch covers and install them in the booms and elevator.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Hi.
I bought the falcon 120 and recieved it last week.
The retracts are AirPower RA250 with AirPower wheels and brakes.
a RAM500 will take her airborn rather nice.
There are a lot of weak spots that requiers some attention:
1. most of the fusealage's internal formers were removed with little or no force at all, the front formers with the retracts mount were glued back in with a decent epoxy.
2. the retracts mounts in the wing were a joke, i managed to remove them without any problems... they will surely be pulled out on a not-so-smooth landing, will glue them back in with some strengthen triangles.
3. the elevator servo will be mounted in a hatch located at the center of the horizontal stabilizer, i opend the hatch on the bottom of the horizontal stabilizer and made a mount for the cover, the servo will be mouted to the hatch cover... single central servo.
4. the bottom of the engine mount is a weak-spot, a hard landing will cause the wood block detach from the fusealage. using a dremel, i opend a nerrow slot and glued in a 5mm carbon tube (approximately 13cm long).
all in all , it seems like a great budget turbine plane.

Looking good! I was going to just put a single 8411 or 8611 in the center of the stab, but early in the thread people were concerned with the heat from the engine. Is this no longer a concern and it is ok to put the servo in the center?
Thanks,

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
I really dont think that the servo will suffer from the heat.
The servo is mounted underneath the hatch cover and the only thing that sticks out is its arm and pushrod.
just to be on the safe side, i am planning on applying an aluminium foil tape to prevent the stab's bottom cover from melting.
the aluminium tape will also be applied to the hatch cover, preventing the servo area from heating.
during flight, the horizontal stabilizer doesnt heat up at all... the main problem is on engine startup.

I have a single Hitech 645 in the middle of the stab and works fine. Just make sure you have a stove pipe over your tail cone on start up just in case you get a hot start.
