Default Rhino in a Titan Bypass/TAMJETS Hornet

Anybody know if the Rhino fits in the BVM Titan bypass? Any issues running this engine with Tam's pipe in his Super Hornet?

Joel,

I missed seeing you at ARCA Jet Rally

I guess if you are asking about Turbines then this new bird must be getting close?

Joel,

I can't speak to the BVM bypass, since I've never used one, but, the Rhino runs fantastic in the Tam bypass/pipe! No problems, whatsoever.

Yea, I missed seeing everyone as well. Was working the late shifts that week and just didn't have the time when the weekend came around. The Hornet is complete, just waiting engine install and balance checks. Building a house now so may not get it flying until the end of summer!

The diameter and length of the Titan/Rhino is near identical......I run both of the motors.....no problem fitting a Rhino in a Titan/KJ-66 bypass....only mod is that you have to use the BVM or RTI strap mounts with the ears....the Rhino mounts are not shaped or spaced properly for the bypass...

We fly without bypass cover. Big different performance in low and high speed.

Tam, can you be more specific? "Without Bypass" or "without bypass cover" would be two different things in my mind.

Assuming there are two halves to your bypass. The cover might be the top half.

Without bypass cover.
BTW, you still haven't send me the gear failsafe for update. When you do. Can you send the 90 rotation gear back to me too. Secretary sending by mistake.
Thanks.

Hey Tam,

Are there any worries about blowing the hatch or gear doors when you're running an open bypass like that?

Joel,
No. Is opposite. With the bypass cover open. It suck the doors and hatch tight. Air coming in from inlet is less than air draw into the pipe.
We been fly years without bypass cover. That why you see our Hornet flew with all the ordinance and still plenty going verticle with stock Titan.

I don't know if I'm adding anything here, but as I understand bypass's they will increase your top speed due to dynamic thrust, and without them, you increase static thrust. That statement would tend to support Tam's statement of "more vertical" without.

Joel,

If you will get me the diameter of your pipe, and how far out you want them, I can make you a template similar to attached which is what I used on a friends Eurofighter I built.

The holes on the last former will let out any built up pressure, it only takes a few small ones. And using a template similar to this will get you very equal pressure relief holes. I ended up going with three on each side of the exhaust.

Thanks for the offer Sean. I'm gonna do the initial flights with bypass covered and then remove it if needed. I'm sure the guys using Titans in this jet need all the push they can get, hence removing the cover.
I think I'll have the power envelope I'm looking for with the Rhino.

On the Super Hornet there is more drag to the airframe than enclose bypass help to reduce the drag. With the bypass cover enclose. It kill a lot thrust.
Without the bypass cover. Our Hornet doing 195 mph on the GPS read out.
The Blue Angel doing 220 wide open.
We never can reach that speed with the enclose bypass before.
Static test. There is 2.5 lbs different.

Tam u one smart and thorough SOB!!!
What else runs better w/o bypass cover?
You got me thinking.
Does this only apply fir the F18?

Thanks
It easy to select the choice.
Bandit and any sport jets with clean airframe need enclose bypass to reach top speed.
Any draggy airframe run half bypass or bellmount set up.
