There is an episode of "Jag" where this is reenacted. At the end of the episode, they make reference to this being real. I never read up on the story from it, but to see hollywood recreate this, was incredible.
Also, Jag reenacted a C-130 landing on an Aircraft carrier, and then at the end of the episode, showed video of it happening for real! So far as I know, it was the only time it had ever happened.

There were several instances in tankers "towing" jets on the boom until they could eject over safe ground, and more than one instance of one jet pushing another. In Korea two F-84 guys put their wingtips under anothers wings and helped them get out of bad country. Talk about cojones! Bob

There was another case in Korea involving two F-86's. One pushed the other safely out to sea but when the pilot bailed out he got tangled in his lines and drowned.

JAG was an interesting study in current events...ala the original Star Trek series from the 60s. Many of the shows were tied into current events or actual history, then "adapted" for the tube. If you looked through the flying parts (which were usually just parts of "Top Gun" with the contrast or brightness changed it could at times be pretty entertaining.
I remember when at University, one of our psychology professors had us study Star Trek and it's correlation to the current events of the 60s (up to studying and submitting a report on "Star Trek, the motion picture). She was a real wing ding but sure made class interesting.
Both shows were campy at times, over dramatic at times, but could be thought provoking as well if you could look through the chaff.

PS. Another interesting JAG feature was its producer. He was the same guy who produced Black Sheep Squadron, Magnum PI and JAG so if you ever noticed, many of the same actors played in all three series.

I worked for one of those guys several years ago at Tyndall AFB FLwhen he was the 95th FITS/CC. I was a young Capt T-33 driver. Steve had two stars on his helmet (mig kills) and is a great guy. He was in the back seat of the "pusher" as an F-4 back seat pilot.....yeah there was such a thing during the initial deployment of F-4s to SEA. They all received the Silver Star several years ago (and many years too late) for their deeds. It's amazing how many real heroes we see every day and just dont know it. We didnt know he was one of the Pardo Pushers until after he was gone from the squadron. I've had dinner with all of them in years past and they were great to be around. One of the guys died a few years back from Lou Gehrigs disease. Until the day he died the other three guys took care of him just a brother.

Sean,
as shameful as it might sound. That's where I learned of it. Made me google it, does not come up on the first page or anything but I searched for a while.
