How do you prep the balsa for painting?

You could mix up some finish epoxy or 30 min and thin it with alchol (maybe 50 to 75%). After it dries scuff it with a scotch brite pad and you're read for paint.

Or just layer it with primer and sand between coats.

I use fiberglass cloth and west systems expoxy to prep surfaces for paint. Might get by on very small pieces without the cloth but larger pieces will crack open over time.

He's right, if this is something like a wing or fuse, it has to be covered in 0.6 oz fiberglass cloth (actually, anything from 0.5 oz to 0.75 oz is OK) or it will crack over time...

I guess I should have asked how big the peice of wood is. If it is structural for sure then you should glass it.
