Hi Wess:

Thank's for the words.
I know how hard is to put one of these jets in air so I'm gladd to hear from others doing great too.
Look, maybe I can save you and others a possible issue.
See photos.
I had a flame out due to a mid air fuel starve.
Clung goes all the way to the front of the tank in a dive and stuck.
System starts to pull nothing but air.
Turbine shuts off with tanks at half capacity.
Solution:
Install a longer pice of brass tubing as depicted to avoid this happening.
Hope this help.

Juan.

Well its been a while but progress now being made again to get her ready for flight, spent this week plumbing all the electrics, air and fuel pipes, fitting receivers, valves, pumps, batteries and solenoids etc, just got to put connectors on the wires now and just about done up front, also going to give the cockpit a make over, bought a very bright green led thats gong to be located under the hud, will see hows this pans out.

Gave the model a cockpit make over this week, bull**** i know but looks more the part now, also overhauled the wheel hubs all new 'o' rings and two new brake linings all air leaks now cured, getting near to completion.

Before

After

Installed a high intensity led under the hud, stil working on this

I have a Tigermeet F16 and while I don't know the paint spec. I would use a water based clearcoat. I have used Ronseal water based semi matt varnish on my MB339 which worked very well and did not wrinkle the water slide decals. I did not dilute it before spraying from my gun. See my thread on spraying with emulsion paints.

Keep your C of G biased toward the 160 as it will flare better when you come into land, I've sold mine and I am sure it was 165mm with the turbine in the rear and two big Nimh batts in the nose. Don't listen to anyone who says keep it forward, jets don't like forward C of G as my mate just found out with his now rebuilt Phoenix! As I've said previously make sure your brakes are 100% as they do land pretty fast, I ended up using a jetronic valve as this worked faultlessly and uses very little air pressure, I also moved my brakes to the trainer switch so it was easy to get to in a hurry and could not be put on in error.

Is anybody flying the F-35? I'm seriously considering buying one........seems pretty straight forward but the videos online show it to land kind of hot.

Pump it up to 120 psi

Mine works great at 100 psi

They also take a few flights to wear in!

I like the F35 also so I went and watched the movies again. They cant fly. That jet was all over including behind the trees. I think it will slow down fine if done correctly. Get one and bring it down to Waco so we can see it!

I accomplish my fourth flight this weekend… The plane took this entire runway (200m) to takeoff with a “supposed to be†a 20lb of thrust engine and with no flaps. With flaperons it took off with a little less.

Hi Guys

I'm new to this thread and cant seem to find answers to my questions and as the build instructions aint that good

I building 2 FEJ F16 1/8 jets

- How do I secure the main tanks into the fuz? I was thinking of tacking them in with silicon sealer.

- How do I plumb a three tank system? Currently I have the header tank Tee'd into the main tanks and both main tanks Tee'd ito the UAT. Is this correct?

- I've scratched my Orange Tiger F16 fuz [] any ideas where I can get the Orange paint from

Thanks for reading

A little silicone is fine. Just don't do what I did on an F4 and glue the snot out of it. You will never remove it without distroying the airframe.

Here is a good diagram for tanks that follows most setups:

Thanks for the reply, looking at the diagram, the main tanks feed the smaller tank, then to the UAT. My small tank is above the mains would this still work?

I have the advanced version and setup mine with the 2 saddle tanks feeding the center tank and the center tank feeding the UAT. Only have 21 flights but no fuel issues running a P-80 SE.

The way I do it is this:

UAT: middle line (top of cap) goes to Pump, pick one side fitting doesn't matter which one (this is for filling and will need to have a removable plug), the other side fitting runs to a t which goes to the saddle tanks (the two equal size tanks). The lines going from the t to the two side tanks must be equal in length - moreover, each clunk in each side tank must be equal in length.

Next the overflow fittings on top of each side tank are t'ed to a t fitting which in turn go to the single clunk line on the middle or top tank (the single smaller one). This tank gets filled and the overflow from this tank goes outside the jet to the overflow fitting.

So as the pump runs, the middle tank will empy first being sucked by the two side tanks, then the side tanks empty, then the UAT.

You can test it without running the turbine by filling up the tanks with your fueler and watch the sequence of fill. When you fill, the UAT fills up first, then the side tanks fill up next then the middle tank fills up last, and the overflow goes outside the jet. When you suck the fuel out with the fueler, the middle tank empties first and the saddle tanks empty, then the UAT is the last to empty.

I'm not the best at describing things but this may help. I noticed the BVM shows one of the side tanks not having a clunk. I don't see how that would work with a three tank system.

Cheers Craig and Andrew

So one of you has the saddle tank draining first and the other has the mains draining first.

Decisions, decisions. Which one to pick?

Either plumbing scheme will work, however, the way it's normally done is for saddle tanks to feed the center tank, like the BVM diagram. That way the center tank acts like an additional bubble trap. As saddle tanks get low, particularly if they don't drain evenly, it's easy for one to pick up an air bubble. On the F-16 the center tank is furthest from the CG and is about the size of the amount of fuel you want for reserve. By draining that tank last you'll have less CG/trim shift as fuel is consumed during flight.

My tanks are not secured to the fuse. They fit snugly in place and do not move around. If yours move easily use just enough silicone or Goop to keep them in place.

You can get touch up paint from FEJ. However, as paint batches can vary quite a bit there is no guarantee you'll get a perfect match.

My recommendation is do not glue the tanks to the fuselage.
Someday you will need to service them.
That is for sure.
