Todd is absolutely correct !
I sit on an ethics board and if someone I know(friend or not) is being
reviewed I let the other board members know up front and will
not vote. I may present evidence or testemony.

Ian should never have moderated over this issue. The
owners of this site should have guidelines for moderators.
At the top of the list is not to moderate friends, business associates, business enemies
unless another moderator is unavailable .

I'm waiting for good weather to check flight for my
turbine certificate. Yes it is a Jetmach 60 and I feel for
Shok and Limeybob and wish them best of luck!

And if I am not mistaken, Hearst Group is a public corporation subject to the First Amendment. ie.. Free Speech.

well i think rcu can trump free speech on there web site. and i support that. what i dont support is a bias trumping for a friend and then a denial. i hate it when some think others arent smart enough to know what is going on. my gut told me right away, something didnt look right with the moderating of that thread. in 5 mintes i looked up where ian lived and where troy built was located. common sense now told me there was a connection. todd totally cleared that up when he chimed in that ian hung out and flew this model at the last jet event and wore their shirt. i know ian has flown other models, but he doesnt live down the street from bvm etc and there is a difference. i imagine his intentions were good, just not well thought out. ian is probably a first rate guy. but none of that matters here, a small guy in the industry has been jipped by a big guy and the big guy had a mod as a friend. well i will never buy from that big guy. barry

Honestly, I have no problem with the thread in question having been moderated. If inappropriate comments or unverified information was posted, it should be removed. What I have issue with is whom performed the moderation as it was clearly not done without Bias. I personally know and respect Ian, I also know he is friends with TBM and some of their affiliates. I also witnessed Ian flying this aircraft, wearing a TBM shirt! Bit difficult to be unbiased under these circumstances and should have been left for another moderator to review and edit as necessary... My last word on the subject...
Todd

HAHAHHAAH! No bias huh? liar!

If I understand correctly, the website belongs 80% to the Hearst Group and as such, this site is subject to all the restrictions, regulations, and privileges governing public corporations. Same as your local newspaper.

If you're interested, here's their official link:

http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/R&D.htm

At the bottom of the page.

Add me to the list of "offended" - that is a personal slap in the face no matter how you cut it, whether a rip off or not, the behavior's inexcusable.

Disclaimer - I may be biased as I've seen the facts also and know Ronnie and Bob personally and happen to be firmly convinced that it was indeed a copy. Before the jet was "named", Troybuilt knew well Ronnie's screen name and then to purposefully mispell "shock" to match his screen name "accidentally"???? Nope, nothing but a slap in the face of the designers. I bet it gets renamed before it really hits the market.

I agree, in my circles I would definitely steer people away from buying this airplane. I have never heard the other side of the story, and I can see why they are obviously staying away from this thread, or topic in general, and I feel bad for that guy Jim getting involved in that airplane because in my mind, it really does take away from whatever accomplishments he might have with it. It's just stained IMO.

Guess ETHICS go down the drain when you can make a few bucks... I was under the impression these sort of things only went on in the far east (from my location)& Washington DC ,Not here in the Good old USA... Learn something new every day []

the old saying fits well here. you lay down with dogs, you are going to get up with fleas. there are a few with plenty of fleas on this deal. i have been getting plenty of emails throughout the day about the back room deals connected with this. i am not going to say anymore, but i am so dissapointed in people that i regarded as good friends of high morals. are the benji's that important that we are blinded from right and wrong. i am 42 and have always had faith in my fellow man that sooner or later the right will prevail. maybe i should wake up, but i never want to think of myself as a cynic. barry

I dont think the name was mispelled on the troybuilt kit...I think it has just changed in this forum. I think its actually marketed as the "shockjet" but I could be wrong.

wrong, go look at the link provided above by chuck c, scroll down on the troy built page and bam, shokjet. got to be one of the worst public relation moves ever made. as divisive and cheap as it gets. ronnie aka shok is a legend now. barry

ps and i do owe dogs everywhere an apologee for comparing this to them.

Would a wren super sport be a good candidate for the "shockjet"?

Nope, but a Ram 500 or 750 would be perfect and a lot less money. Tie that in with a Futaba Radio, and you'll be having a great time!

My favorite comment on that website is in the Tips-n-Tricks section:

"You didn't have to make the outside of the plane look good because you paid a teenage girl in China $0.30 an hour to cover the plane for you, so you can at least make the inside look halfway decent."

And so we can conclude the teenage girl in China is named Troy???

I'm posting it here so if the comment is taken down, it's here for all to see.

The designer of the model was obviously ripped off in this deal, or lack of deal. [:'(]

Hi,

As you can see I don't post much but this is ridiculous. I agree with UncleJoe. What a bunch of *****hole$. I will never buy anything from TBM no matter how good their stuff may be. How anyone can support a company that that does this kind of blatant ripoff is beyond me. And moderator you should be ashamed.

I'm not real smart on this "internets" thing, but since the TBM web-site doesn't have any other advertisers on it, doesn't it COST THEM MONEY if say oh a few hundred folks logged on and off a few times without buying anything ?[:-]

How did this turn into a Futaba bashing thread? I've been using Futaba equipment for over twelve years and never had a glitch. I've owned a Futaba 9303 radio and recently moved up to a Futaba 10X which works great as long as nobody turns on the same channel as yours. Then you get that down elevator glitch before going into failsafe[:@]. A small inconvenience at most. Just ask D.S. Ok, Ok, I couldn't resist. Let's carry on with the bashfest.

There is no Futaba bashing here - simply because I would not allow it!
