Default Bobcat Hopper position

Guys, installing the tanks currently in a Bobcat, currently the saddle tanks are in position and fit fine, according to the drawings a 16oz hopper tank fits on end in between the two saddle tanks.

The hopper tank I have been supplied by the client I don't believe is the BVM unit and as a result the fuel fitting to the tank really gets in the way of the saddle tank fuel pipes and nesesitates tight bends in the Tygon fuel tube.

My question is can the hopper be positioned above the saddle tanks, or is good old gravity playing a major part here?

There is room to raise it a few inches off the bottom so the top is touching the inside of the fuselage, and the bootom is clear of the saddle tank feed nipples.

I haven't got that far yet but it looks to me like that is the correct tank as supplied by BVM.

It should be just a standard Sullivan 16oz as shown here http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFT72&P=7

The pic in the manual shows it as quite a tight fit too.

Guys

The tubes pass through to the opposite side and loop over/under the sullivan hopper

Dave, cheers for the help, and good to meet you at Abingdon on Friday.

Would it be OK to spin the hopper tank bung round 90 degrees so the two pipe exits are horizontal rather than vertical, that would make it easier for the pipes from the hopper tanks to pass over and under?

Marc you can raise the hopper tank if you want, the upgraded kevlar tank from BVM sits on top of the main tanks. Gravity feed does not play a role here as we have a fuel pump to draw fuel from the tanks.

Gravity feed does not play a role here......................
it does when it comes to the vents and it draining out on the ground when the turbine isn't running.

KC the main tanks feed the hopper which is elevated or level and will not drain out the vent. the pickup from the mains enter the vent of the hopper, air flow through the hopper is prevented by the fuel pump and solenoid valve. unless the vent was on the bottom of an elevated hopper and air was allowed to flow freely from the pick up would you experiance the senerio you speak

Marc

Yes you can have the bung any way you like.
There is no need to lift the tank.
