hi everybody i just receive my skymaster bae hawk arf plus kit , i m very happy with the quality and the service of skymaster , i just ask you because in my kit i have my "one piece with Dual ball bearing for elevator " on both side which were in black plastic as ll my horn for the wings , do you think it s normal or it s a mistake factory ???????, i thought it should be in metal for the elevator (as the photo n the web site ) and in carbon for the horn no?
Could you let me know .

I have also just taken delivery of a Hawk ARF Plus in Australia, and noticed the same things.

Given the recommendation to use two (2) 8511 servos on the all flying stab, it would seem to me that the weak link may now become the black plastic bearing for the stabs. I am contemplating making some new ones out of aluminium with a bearing pressed into the fittings but have not realy started on the project due to other unfinished projects.

Perhaps we could get some confirmation from SM that this is "normal" for this stab bearing?

Overall the model looks just great and should be a great flying aircraft.

Guys, check to manual for the stabs, it says nothing about plastic brackets. See step #3. Good luck Eric

I too was a little confused, as to why this part is in black plastic and not metal.

Also i found that this black plastic bearing holder was stiff to turn, so we slackened the locknut off a little, and then found that there was too much play.

We thought it best to take this apart and found that there was no spacer/ washer between the two bearings, so when you tighten the locknut up,the bearings simply tighten up. To fix this we put a very thin washer between the two bearings, which helped no end.

The Hawk has flown with this linkage now, with no problems. However a Aluminium would give me greater piece of mind.

Does anyone know why we are supplied with black plastic, instead of an Aluminium part, as shown in the Manual??

Yes, the bearing mount is plastic, No problems about this,

Because when I test fly the hawk , I use the bearing mount for F-4 only, but when I decided to produces it that I designed the new bearing mount for Hawk,

Because the tail is little heavy for Hawk, the we also finished test flight the Hawk by plastic bearing mount, very well,

We already stop produce the carbon Horns 2 years ago , because too expensive for customers, we now never offer use the carbon horns again,

But I still use the picture in the manual ,

Just a question for the tail servo could you just tell me or show me by a picture how you have done to fix it into the tail .

Well that solves that question.

Could anyone show how they have fixed the problem of the linkages at the servo horn fouling the fibreglass elevator cover.

I had to move my linkages down the elevator horn approx 10mm to clear the cover!!!!

Why am |I not surprised - with the original SM Hawk you also could not use the full length of the elevator out put arm as it used to touch the turbine pipe.

The 8511's, seems like total overkill anyway, I run Futaba 9602's on 4 cell (8.9 kg each) with with my original 13.5 kg Hawk. Save yourself some money and use 8411's.
