Is it necessary to fly a D. fan model prior to trying turbines? I have been flying planes and heli's for years and want to get into turbines and am just wondering...

I have yet to fly a turbine trainer but should have my super reaper ready to do just that in about two weeks. I have how ever flown a duct fan top gun f-15 jet for the last past 2 years and in my opinion it would be a very good experience. The building of the jet,set up of the engine, plumbing, flaps, retracts, and flying has to be worth something. The only thing different to me with jets from prop planes was longer take off runs to build up air speed, once in the air jets are faster and also land a little faster.I think the real key is getting started with the right jet trainer(entry level).

No it is not necessary. Unless you're really interested in d/f for some reason, it just adds another level of expense. That money could be better used for your turbine and/or model.

Yea,
f106a makes a good point because both duct fan and turbines jets as expensive and where money is a concern maybe it would be wiser to save money and bypass duct fans. But in doing that you IMO loose some very good jet experience that may help you not loose that first 3 or 4 thousand dollar turbine with one little bone head mistake.

I am happy to read this thread, I have actualy a whiplash extreme on order, and this should be my last plane before the roo...
I know my whife will ofer me a roo for next christmas (with turbine) and I don't want to disapoint her, so I train with extreme speed prop. I hope this will be enough
